It wasn't Bonnie's crying that made Riley volunteer for Stefan and Damon's road trip. She'd sat by the witch's side for hours, using tissues to mop away her tears as she came to terms with the fact that the former love of her life, Jeremy Gilbert, was dead.

But when the opportunity came to get out of town, Riley jumped at the chance to help her vampire best friend and his vampire brother track down their vampire girlfriend/ex-girlfriend.

"So Elena's looking for the cure?" she asked, not even sure where they were. All she knew was that they had tracked down Damon's car and were headed towards Willoughby. "Isn't that a good thing?"

"She doesn't want it for herself," Damon told her, grimacing slightly as he picked up two large cans of gas for the car. "She's got a new partner in crime. Rebekah."

Riley nodded, not saying anything. Rebekah went with them to the island, because apparently, being a 1,000 year old undead creature of the night was getting tiring for the blonde Original.

"Ooh, silver lining," Damon continued. "If Rebekah takes the cure, then she's mortal and we can just kill her right then and there."

"Ooh, dark cloud," Stefan added, slightly mimicking his brother. "If Rebekah takes the cure, Elena stays a vampire forever."

"Even darker cloud," Riley said. "Elena stays a vampire forever without her humanity, she keeps running until we stop chasing her, and we never see her again."

Damon grimaced, remembering the time he spent in New York with humanity-less Elena, which involved her snapping his neck and stealing his car. "Elena without humanity is a stone-cold bitch. I won't trust her until we get the old Elena back."

He filled the car with gas while Riley and Stefan watched.

"And you're confident that we're gonna get her back?" Riley wondered aloud, pointing at Stefan. "Because when this one went off the rails, we let him come back on his own. No one forced Stefan to turn it back on."

Stefan frowned. "I went off the rails because of Klaus," he reminded her. "I turned my humanity back on because..." he trailed off, sneaking a glance at Damon, who smirked.

"You turned it on because of your love for Elena, we get it," Damon finished for him. He loved Elena more than anything, but part of him worried that she would go back to Stefan once she got the cure.

"I turned it on because Elena refused to give up on me," Stefan clarified. When his humanity was off, he remembered only wanting to get revenge, to kill Klaus. But his feelings for Elena eventually took over, due to the fact that she never stopped loving him.

"You realize that Elena runs both of your lives, right?" Riley asked, a slight smirk on her face. "She clicks her fingers and you both come running. I would never let a guy have that much control over me."

Damon raised an eyebrow at his brother, before turning to her. "Are you kidding? I had to turn Bonnie's mom into a vampire because you refused to stake Elijah."

She winced slightly at the familiar name. "Fine, maybe I get too emotionally involved. But that doesn't change the fact that he left, and I got over him." She turned her attention to Stefan. "Try it. It's great."

"When we get the cure, if Elena still wants to be with Damon, I'll be fine with that," Stefan declared, fooling no one. In fact, neither of them were fooling Damon. He knew that Stefan would be pissed if Elena stayed with him, just like he knew that Riley wasn't over Elijah – she was using their 'cure' problems as a distraction.

"Great," he said, eyeing them both suspiciously. "Then let's go find it."
