Somewhere, a seagull honked and Olivia jumped awake, scrambling for her wand to point at it.
"Shoo! Shoo!" she yelled, flicking her wrist at the bird until it flew away. She hated seagulls, which was the unfortunate thing about where she lived. Albeit, this was the first one that had flown into her bedroom. And then it dawned on her. She wasn't in her bedroom.Suddenly alert, she looked around the space she was in, remembering how the previous night, she and Tom had found a cave. Indeed, Tom was lying beside her, still sleeping, and he was-
Carajo. [fuck.]
"What? What happened?" Tom muttered tiredly, snapping Olivia's attention to him.
"We slept together last night," Olivia replied, immediately getting up to grab her clothes. "Put some clothes on!" Olivia swore under her breath in Spanish again. Tom sat there for a moment, and then the realisation hit him too.
"Fuck." He, too, got up but moved less erratically.
"What do I tell my parents?" she asked him, pulling her dress over her head. She stood still and took a breath.
"Easy. We say that we fell asleep on the beach. Because we did," Tom replied. He grabbed her shoulders tight. "Didn't we?"
"I know, I just-" she took a deep breath. "Did we use protection? Should I buy a morning after pill?"
"The chances you're pre-"
"The chances I'm pregnant don't count. I don't want to be pregnant and I would like you to answer my question, Tom." Olivia stared up at him. "¿Necesito comprarlo o no?" [do I need to buy it or not?]
"No. We used protection. How would you forget? You performed it?"
"It was a night of very hot sex, Tom! Excuse me if I forget the minor details!" She slapped him lightly on the arm as they started to make their way back.
"Wait," Tom said. "We can apparate back."
"Bien [fine]," Olivia replied and held onto Tom as he took them back to outside Olivia's house. When she realised her parents weren't home, Olivia relaxed more. They would probably forget the couple didn't make it home last night. As long as Olivia cooked dinner. Some time passed, and then it came to Ana's wedding. Finally, her sister was settling down and moving out, and Olivia could not be happier (not that she didn't love her sister. It was just that Ana kept stealing her clothes). Tom had been recruited to help out somewhere or the other, and Olivia was a little glad, to be truthful.
She loved Tom, sin duda [without doubt], but after their escapade on the beach, Olivia felt... awkward. She was ready to have sex, and yeah, she loved it, but she was very wary of becoming pregnant, something she did not want to happen. They hadn't talked about it either, worsening the situation, even though Olivia was pretty sure it was because Tom thought Olivia was angry at him for it. And she wasn't; there just hadn't been a suitable time to tell him that, because Ana's wedding had taken priority and Tom had finally found a job, where he worked full time. Olivia also hadn't told anyone else, not even Eve and Gabriella, because she was a little ashamed, to be truthful, that she had sex before marriage and-
"Hola, tonto del culo [hey, dumbass]," Ana called at Olivia, throwing a hairbrush at her sister that narrowly missed her head.
"¿Qué? ¿Qué quieres? [what? what do you want?]" Olivia replied, picking the up the object.
"Focus! You promised you were going to do my hair. Además, [besides]..." As Olivia approached the chair her sister was in, Ana turned back around to face the mirror. Olivia watched her bite her lip, a sign she was nothing.
"Getting cold feet?" Olivia asked, starting to work on her sister's hair. Ever since they were little, if they weren't trying to pull out each other's hair, then they were usually playing hairdressers. They loved it so much that they had made a pact when they were ten that they'd do each other's hair at their weddings.
"Not exactly. I- if I tell you, promise to not tell Mama?"
"Bien. ¿Qué? [fine. what?]"
"Did you ever think this wedding was a little... rushed?" Ana said, watching Olivia via the mirror very carefully.
"I am honestly surprised you've lasted this long, to be truthful, Ana."
"Ouch. Well, actually no. See, there's a problem."
"¿Qué? "
"We were going to separate."
"¿Qué?" Olivia repeated, with a lot more emphasis. "What happened?"
"I got pregnant," Ana admitted. Olivia felt something weird wash over her, and her heart started pounding. How was it they (almost) had the same problem? "Y sabes... [and you know], we decided that we couldn't just separate like that, especially with a baby in me. Both our parents would flip their shit if they knew."
"Why were you going to leave each other?" Olivia asked. She knew Ana was probably nervous about admitting about being pregnant, so she discarded that for the moment.
"Just didn't feel it. I mean, we liked each other, and we still do. Pero no es lo mismo [but it's not the same]. But the sex... whew. I think that's why we stayed together for so long." Ana paused. "Don't tell Mama?" she repeated. Olivia nodded.
"Tom and I had sex the other night," Olivia confessed.
"When you didn't come home?" Olivia nodded. "Is that why there's a weird vibe between you? What happened? Did he-" Olivia interrupted the flood of questions
"No, it was nice. But it was sex before marriage. That's what I'm freaking out about." A silence descended on them. Olivia finished pinning Ana's hair up and stood back to admire her handiwork. "What do I do about it?"
"It's okay, sabes? Sex... it's a very natural thing. And you're both consenting adults. If you get pregnant- well, don't pull a wedding. But just do it, Via. It'll bring you guys closer, and on the plus side, if you do get pregnant, maybe you can advocate for change or something like that." Ana turned in her seat. "But don't punish yourself. Or Tom. ¿Me entiendes? [understand me?]"
"Sí. Gracias. You know, I always knew you'd get married first. You look beautiful."
"You sound like you're saying everything you're thinking. I recommend you stop there." Ana stood up. "I guess I'm getting married today."
"We never expected anything less," a new voice replied, and the sisters turned to discover their brother, closing the door behind him. "I just thought you would've gone through more guys before it occurred." Ana snatched up the hairbrush again.
"Woah, no!" Olivia shouted, taking it away, remembering her close call. Javier, in defence, snatched up a cushion.
"Olivia! ¡Ayúdame![help me!]" he yelled, taking cover behind it.
"I don't know. You sort of did that to yourself," Olivia told her brother, folding her arms, hairbrush included.
"Watch your mouth," Ana warned.
"You look sensational," Javier replied to that, smiling.
"Gracias. [thanks.]"
"De nada. [you're welcome.]" The three of them stood there, in silence, for a little while more, and with a silent signal, embraced. Somehow, Olivia started to feel emotional. However, before any of them could say anything, Olivia's parents entered the room as well. They broke apart instantly, to prevent their mama crying, but then she saw her eldest and started anyway.
"Ay, mama," Ana exclaimed gently, stepping forwards.
"Creo que ya es suficiente. ¿Nos vamos?[i think that's enough, now. Shall we go?]" Olivia's papa suggested.
The wedding went fine, the newlywed couple were on their way to their honeymoon, and Olivia's parents were away on holiday too, seemingly having booked themselves a holiday somewhere. They'd left Olivia in charge as opposed to Javier, but he'd decided he was going to sleep over with some friends. Remembering her conversation with Ana, Olivia decided she and Tom should have a talk.
Currently, she was struggling out of her bridesmaid's dress, unable to reach the zip. She had caught Tom's face as he saw her for it in the first time, and at least she'd gotten a jaw drop (although he quickly resumed an emotionless face. Tom was good at that.) Olivia also found herself even more so attracted to him in the suit, but quickly ignored that and continued with her bridesmaid's duties. Now though, he was lying on her bed, one arm propping up his head as the other played with the tassels of a cushion on his lap, watching Olivia struggle.
"Okay, I give up," she stated and turned to look at Tom. "Could you help me a little?"
"With the zip?" she nodded. He chucked the cushion aside to get up, and Olivia turned back around.
"You know, I think we need to talk about the other night," she started to say.
"Oh?" Tom said snarkily, raising an eyebrow. Olivia rolled her eyes, then jumped as his cold hands made contact with her neck.
"Yes. Y sus manos están frías,[and your hands are cold]," she informed him."I talked with Ana today. She got married because she got pregnant and they panicked.
"Is that so?" Tom answered, managing to yank the zip about halfway down. Damned dress.
"I thought it was ironic. Anyway, I told her, and I've thought about what she said."
"Oh?" he repeated, frowning slightly as the zip didn't budge. Olivia was surprised he hadn't used magic yet.
"Well. I enjoyed sex. And it was wrong of me to get angry because there's nothing wrong about it. We're both consenting adults, right? So, I'm sorry. That wasn't fair of me."
"No?" Finally, the zipper went all the way down, and Olivia could breathe more comfortably.
"Whew." She held a hand to her stomach.
"If you were scared, that's normal. I get it. Babies are big things. They shouldn't be a punishment because we want to have fun," Tom told her, wrapping his arms around her. Olivia leaned her head back onto her shoulder. "And in the event that did happen, I would not leave you. I promise." Olivia smiled.
"That's nice of you. But at least we can use contraception, right? A couple of spells... we're good to go?"
"As long as you have your wand. Then we're good to go." He pressed a kiss to her forehead.
"You know... that suit looks great on you."
