Happens after HTTYD3! Enjoy!

———————

It was during dinner at the Haddock house when Astrid and Hiccup decided to break the news to their parents about their engagement.

Dessert was finished and they were just talking about random things now. Astrid looked up at Hiccup and he nodded at her knowingly. She grinned and cleared her throat.

"Uhh, mom, dad, Valka" Astrid interrupted, catching their attention. She glanced briefly at Hiccup and smiled.

"Since we're here on a different island now and we're finally settling down, Hiccup and I decided to take the next step in our relationship" She continued, biting her lip nervously.

"Grandbabies?" Valka asked, her eyes lighting up. Hiccup and Astrid blushed.

"Mom! No!" Hiccup denied, shaking his head and making her calm down again.

"I proposed to Astrid yesterday and she said yes" Hiccup told them and Valka's eyes brightened again.

"We're getting married" Astrid said, smiling sheepishly at her parents and waiting for their reaction. They instantly beamed back at their daughter, making her sigh in relief.

"I knew it, Ingrid!" Astrid's father, Martin, exclaimed happily. He looked between Hiccup and Astrid and grinned happily.

"I told you one day they'll get married!" He continued as Hiccup and Astrid raised an eyebrow at each other. Ingrid, Astrid's mother, rolled her eyes and patted her husband's arm.

"We all knew it, Martin. Calm down" She said.
"That's very true. I'm pretty sure we already made a marriage contract when they were 5" Valka added, making them laugh in remembrance.

"Oh, you two were very cute best friends. And we knew that one day that would grow" Valka said to Hiccup and Astrid who blushed even harder.

"What? Mom, we were 5" Hiccup said, chuckling nervously. Valka chuckled at ber son's reaction and shook her head.

"One day, you came home with a flower crown on your head and refused to let anyone take it off or merely touch it! You kept saying that Astrid said that you looked pretty and you wanted to keep it there." She told him and chuckled softly. Astrid laughed softly with an amused face, even if she didn't recall it.

"You were only 5, of course, you don't remember this" Ingrid said, smiling at the memory. Hiccup rolled his eyes at Astrid who trying her hardest not to burst out laughing.

"That day, I remember Stoick coming home and seeing you and just laughing at his confused and worried face" Valka continued, making Astrid burst into laughter. She laughed and held her stomach. Ingrid and Martin were also chuckling now and Hiccup couldn't help but grin.

"Oh! One dinner, Astrid talked so much about Hiccup. All she did was ramble on about how his hair was fun to braid and how they ran into the forest together. She didn't even touch her food!" Ingrid said, making Hiccup chuckled and smirk at Astrid who blushed. She stuck her tongues out at him and grinned.

"What was worse, was that it continued to the next day when we went to a funeral. The whole time, she kept telling mourning people about seeing a frog with Hiccup" Martin said, making Hiccup laugh and Astrid chuckle at her old self.

"You two would hold hands and walk around together. Both of you were just inseparable. We literally had to pull you off each other" He added, chuckling as the couple blushed.

"Stoick was the sure though. He truly believed in you two. He always told me that they would last" Valka told them, smiling sadly at the thought of her passed husband. Hiccup gave her a small smile back.

(They Would Last: that's a chapter in this book :> self-plug 🤣)

'That's my future daughter-in-law!' She recalled his voice saying, feeling the same fatherly love.

"We always knew you'd be together. There was just something between you two" Valka told them. Hiccup and Astrid looked at each other and smiled, happy that it finally did happen.

"Oh come here you two! Family hug!" Ingrid exclaimed and opened her arms. The couple chuckled and went over to join the hug.

While they were hugging, Astrid found Hiccup's eyes and they gazed lovingly at each other. He mouthed 'I love you' to her, making her smile. She mouthed it back and sighed happily at her fiancé.

They didn't need their parent's embarrassing storied of them as children to tell them they were destined for each other. They already felt in their hearts from the moment they met and every single time their eyes meet theirs, they just knew they were destined.
