"House party in the suburbs," May noted. "I remember these. Kind of jealous!"
"It'll be a night to remember!" Ned piped in.
"Why am I doing this, again?" I asked outloud, looking at the car window.
Right, because Dia had invited me right after P.E. It sounded so casual, and she said she wouldn't be hurt if I didn't go. Of course, that's what all nice Senior girls would say, I bet, and therefore I kind of had to come because it was Dia! She wanted to introduce me to some of her other friends, or something like that, as if we were best buds or something. I didn't mind, it was just a weird concept for me to believe.
Maybe if I sat in my guilt long enough, I could melt into May Parker's seats, I wouldn't have to go. She'd just drive me back home, where I could rewatch Harry Potter, with a bowl of ice cream in hand.
"This is a mistake," Peter said, nervously tapping on the car door's handle. "Let's just go home."
"I'm down!" I responded, putting my seat belt back on. "You know, I bet it's all this stress from, uh, DECA and stuff. What would help me-- and probably Peter, too-- would to just go home and power-sleep."
Peter nodded his head in agreement. See, we were perfect for each other! But, uh, not in a romantic way. Unless-
"What helps with stress is going to parties," Ned offered. "We should go to the party."
Peter sighed, and said at last: "Yeah, let's do it."
"Wait, really?" I asked, a bit shocked.
Peter ignored me, and opened up the car door. Ned got out as well, so I quickly unbuckled the seat belt that I just put back on, and stepped onto the weird suburban street. Strangely enough, the suburbs smelled like barbecues, Chanel perfume, and suppressed emotions. Liz's house was filled with lights, and I could softly hear music coming from inside.
"Bye, May!" Ned called out as May began driving off.
I was officially stuck at the party.
"Well, I guess it's time for me to hide in an empty bedroom and sing my sorrows away," I said bluntly. "If you guys need to find me, just listen for the irritable screaching that I call my singing voice, as I try to create my own rendition of Waving Through a Window."
Someone knocked on the glass doors, and I looked up to see that it was Dia. She was waving excitedly, and was motioning for me to go in and find her.
Sighing, I said, "Never mind, it looks like I've got new plans. I'll see you guys inside?"
I looked over at Ned and Peter, who were quietly debating about something. They both stopped talking, and looked back at me suspiciously. Not creepy at all, if you asked me!
"See you weirdos later, I guess," I told them, and walked inside the house.
Right as I stepped inside, I was positive that I died and descended down to the depths of hell. The music was so loud that I could feel it pulsing through the floor, and everyone seemed so.... normal. People were chatting happily to each other with cans of Sprite and Mountain Dew in hand. Some girls were all dressed up nice, and I was just in a pair of jeans with some weird stain on them.
"(Y/N)!" Dia called out, grabbing my wrist and pulling me into a fairly empty room. "Sorry about that."
"It's all good," I brushed off. "I still can't believe you convinced me to come, though!"
She was still looking through the house's entrance, as if trying to spot someone in its fairly emptiness. She had a grip on my wrist, and I became a bit nervous. What exactly were her plans for that night? Why invite me of all people when she would know most of the people here, anyways?
