Trigger warnings: Hanahaki disease, blood, death, cheating, crying,

~~~
Logan and Virgil were having an evening in. They were watching a movie, that served as background sound rather than actual entertainment. They were talking to each other instead, something sappy and romantic, which was rare for them. Virgil felt a tickle at his throat, and the chest pain he'd been having for a while flared up again. He turned away and coughed into his hand. He froze. In his hand sat a single blue petal.
He started shaking, wondering how this was possible.
"Virgil? Are you alright?"
Virgil spun around, clenching his fist. Uncontrollable tears spilled down his cheeks and he ran out of the room, down the hallway and into his bedroom. He slammed the door behind him and slid down it, sobbing. He heard Logan follow and knock on his door, and he tried to stifle his sobs.
"Virgil, what's wrong?"
A million thoughts flew through his mind. Logan isn't in love with him, Logan doesn't even like him, Logan hates him. Virgil thought that his feeling were finally paying off, letting his be happy rather than a nuisance for once. He'd been on Tumblr long enough to know about Hanahaki Disease, but he didn't think it was real.
He started coughing again, more petals flying out of his mouth.
"I'll give you some time. Please remember that I'm always here for you. If you would like to talk, I'll be in my room." He heard Logan linger for a moment more, before hearing footsteps making their way down the hall.
All this time. Ten months. Logan said nothing. It hurt, badly. They'd been together for so long, and to think that Logan felt nothing in all that time? He couldn't bare it.
They'd learned together. Learned to love. Learned to depend on another. Learned to handle emotions. But now that was all for nothing. Virgil couldn't help but let his cries ring out through the mind palace.
More knocking.
"Virgil, what's going on? Thomas is freaking out."
At the sound of Roman's voice, Virgil felt oddly relieved. Relieved that it wasn't Logan, him being the last person he wanted to see right now.
Virgil jumped up and opened the door. Roman stood there, leaning his elbow against the door frame.
"Oh my, Virgil, what's wrong?" Roman saw the trails of makeup down Virgil's face, an obvious sign he'd been crying.
Virgil pulled him inside his room, shutting the door behind him and sinking back onto the ground. Roman followed and sat next to him. He couldn't help but notice Roman looking at the petals on the floor.
"Virgil, why have you been messing with flowers? I thought you hated them."
Virgil tried to respond, but spiralled into another coughing fit. Roman rubbed his back as he spluttered and choked. More petals floated to the ground, Virgil making no effort to catch them.
"What on earth..." Roman muttered to himself.
"It's Hanahaki," Virgil managed to say.
"What in the dear Heavens is that?"
"I thought it was a fictional disease. If you have unrequited love for someone, flowers grow in you lungs, making you cough up petals. They grow through you body, making the disease increasingly painful, until they reach your heart."
Roman eyes widened in realisation.
"But you can't die! Thomas won't have any anxiety, and we all know how that goes..." Roman said, thinking out loud, "Patton will be heartbroken, I'll be devastated. Oh my god. Logan."
