Camila's POV

When I could control myself, I picked up the cell phone I had dropped and called Julian, over Lauren's protective gaze, who was attentive to every little step I took.

"Julián..." my voice came out hoarse "what will we do now?"

"Tere's nothing to do, my love" he said quietly "Douglas was always alone in the world, you know that very well. We will go to bury him, obviously and then we will turn the page" the cold voice he used made me shiver.

"We are talking about a human being.
You can't just dig a hole and leave it in there. Call a priest, offer him a mass, buy him flowers..."

"Camila, this is done in solidarity with the family, he doesn't even have one" I closed my eyes and pressed the device into my hands tightly.

"You aren't aware, are you? He needs to be buried like every other person. And if I have to travel there right now to give him one I'll do it. Julian, you didn't get a little bad, did you?

"No, the truth is no".

It was enough to end the call.

"How can there be people so heartless?" I said, sitting down again. Lauren was by my side "he was young, he had so much to live..." my eyes were filled with tears "besides me, there is nobody sad with this"

"Camila, that's the world" she held my hand "people usually don't have the purity that you have."

"I don't know what to do now.." I shook my head. I wanted to go to Miami and comply with everything I said to Julian. But... there was Lauren. She rejected a job proposal abroad to stay here, with me.
It would be very inhuman on my part to simply pack my bags and leave.

"You have to go back... I won't stop you" I looked up, seeing her "someone has to hold the reins over there"

I saw her, despite the sweet words and the surprising action. From a distance one could see that she was dejected.

I stayed with two hearts.

"When I calm down I'll talk to Julian and I'll see what to do" I left it that way "if he decides to bury Douglas I can't stop him, nor ask that they leave his body there, so I will ask for a dignified Mass for him as soon as he arrives."

"Think about it, if you feel like you should go... then go" she said

Even in the evening I spoke again with Julian, he told me that it wasn't necessary for me to return. The funeral would be done in a little over half an hour and I could never get to Miami before that.

Although I have clear that the guilt in no way is his, I was angry, for not listening to me, for doing everything on the run.

After the call I took a bath, feeling the water go through my body and practically embrace me, relaxing my muscles. I raised my face, letting the hot drops fall on me, mingling with some tears that I didn't intend to hold.

I put on a pink sweater, picked up the sleeves, pajama pants and my traditional Scooby Doo slippers. It was already past midnight and, despite feeling exhausted, a chill ran through my body when I thought about going to bed.

"Pss.." I heard and turned around, Lauren was leaning in the door of my room
"I found something that can distract us" she indicated with her head where she wasa and I went there.

A smile came to my lips when I saw several pieces of a puzzle on the floor, some pillows around and some snacks on the small bedside table.

"I don't know if you like this, but at least it occupies the mind" she shrugged.

"I would love to put this puzzle together with you, Lauren" I smiled, almost childish, sitting on one of the pillows. She gave back to the smile and did the same.

After almost half an hour playing I released one of the pieces with force.

"This doesn't fit" I frowned. "Laureeeen..." I called her crafty, she lifted her head, looking at me.

"Calm down, you irritate human" she took the piece she was holding and set it aside. "you have to have patience."

"But it doesn't fit..." I crossed my arms. A short time later, I dropped my chin when she could find the place where the piece was going "It doesn't work, you're much better than me" I said and made a pout.

"Lies..." she denied

"Seriously, you almost formed the whole city while I only finished some silly clouds..." she cackled.
