Jane's pov

"Oh, there she is." Luke said as I walked into the kitchen, rubbing my eyes and yawning. Pulling out the milk from refrigerator, I smiled to myself.

Today is Sunday. Means no office and no work. I'm gonna watch Netflix and chill all day.

"Morning, Jane!" I threw the milk out of my mouth hearing the same horrible voice of Mrs. Harrington.

"What the hell!?" Luke cursed stretching his soaked shirt.

What the hell is Mrs. Harrington doing here? Have she planned about ruining my Sunday?

"What are you doing here Mrs. Harrington?" I asked as politely as I could.

"I brought you apple pie." She gushed, smiling brightly that showed her white bright teeth. Instead of surprising, I was rather dubious about the whole act. What's with that bright morning smile and apple pie?
"Taste it and tell me how's it?"

I raised my brow at Luke. Maybe he had an idea about what's going on here? But he just shrugged. My guts was telling me that I shouldn't take any bite of this pie, but then I thought Dorcus must be at his grandma's house since it's Sunday that's why Mrs. Harrington was happy.

Not pursuing the matter any further I picked up a piece of apple pie and shoved it into my mouth.

Exquisite.

That's what I felt before a voice which haunts my nights approached to my ears.

"Mom! They don't have cupcake toothpaste. How am I supposed to spend whole day here!?" Dorcus yelled at her mother who gave me a fake smile before glaring at her son.

Did he just say whole day...here?

"What's going on here?" I asked absolutely dumbfounded by the situation.

Mrs. Harrington began, "Umm....You remember my mother who visited here last year?"

"The one who tried to break walnut through her teeth but happened the exact opposite." I admitted, "Yeah I remember, unfortunately."
Luke gave me a death glare but I ignored it.

"Her health isn't good this year, so unfortunately poor Dorcus can't visit her this Sunday." She continued, "The company in which I work only gives break on Saturday, and I can't just take an extra leave since I've got a project to submit today."

I knew where the conversation was going, but I wasn't ready for it. In this moment, I prayed that much that I'd never done in my life before. I wished she wouldn't say what I'd guessed.

"Can you babysit my Dorcus for today?"

Why hadn't I died before hearing this?

I cleared my throat and asked, "Umm...What about Mr. Harrington?"

She let out an exasperated sigh, "You know that beanbag." I nodded. "I can't leave my Dorcus with him."

I twisted my lip and asked, "But...why me?"

"Oh, I trust you Jane." She flattered grabbing my hands, "Besides, I knew you love apple pie."

I looked at delicious apple pie that was screaming at me to devour it, but also screaming the recipe of disaster.

It was all because of that apple pie. Mrs. Harrington bribed me so she could make me for babysitting her Dorcus.

I swallowed the last piece of pie and agreed, "I'll babysit him."

"Thank you so much, Jane. You're the best." She exclaimed shaking both of my hands. "Be a good boy, Dorcus and don't bother anyone."

When she left I turned my attention to my sweet brother who was smiling widely at me. "I'm gonna castrate you." I yelled, throwing a plate at him, but unfortunately he caught it.
"Don't blame me for your acquisitiveness." He shrugged while rushing into his room.
