"Breaking news: Captain America actor Chris Evans and his girlfriend Phoenix Benali split after more than 2 years of dating." Jason Kennedy announced as Phoenix watched E News alone on her couch.
"Unfortunately, their engagement only lasted a short amount of time before the couple decided to call it quits. " Giuliana Rancic continued. "A source close to the pair tells us that Phoenix and Chris broke their engagement off almost a month ago and continued with their relationship afterwards in hopes of making it work but in the end, they could not make it work."
Phoenix grunted as she lazily kicked her feet up.
"To make matters worse, Chris was spotted out at dinner just last night with ex girlfriend Jenny Slate on what appeared to be a double date." Giuliana Rancic informed. "Do you think he and Jenny are reconciling their relationship that ended just before he and Phoenix began dating?"
Phoenix laughed at the images shown on the screen of Chris and Jenny at dinner at their favorite restaurant in Boston with Scott and his boyfriend. "What a fucking asshole."
"I'm back!" Tom announced as he reentered Phoenix's home with 3 of Phoenix's reusable shopping bags filled to the brim. Because she was in such a bad place, he had left to buy her bubble bath, face masks, and nail polish so he could pamper her properly along with all of her favorite snacks. "I didn't know what color nail polish you would want so I just bought one of every color." He continued as he walked into the living room to find his best friend watching E News. He placed the shopping bags on the floor next to the couch before reaching for the remote and turning off the tv. "Why are you watching this?! It's not good for your mental health right now."
"I dunno." She shrugged. "Apparently Chris was on a date with Jenny Slate last night... we've barely been broken up for 3 days and he's already moved on..."
Phoenix couldn't help but to be hurt by her ex boyfriend moving on so quickly, especially after the length of their relationship. The fact that Chris and Jenny were also hanging out when they were still dating ignited a red light in Phoenix's head. She knew Chris was a loyal man so she never thought he'd cheated on her but the fact of the matter was that he was now seeing the person he'd always claimed was just his friend; and that hurt Phoenix greatly.
The thought of Chris kissing Jenny they way he used to kiss her broke her heart. The thought of him making love to Jenny killed her inside. While she was at home thinking about Chris and all of the things she should've done differently to make their relationship work, he was out with another woman - which was his given right since she ended the relationship but she wasn't expecting him to move on almost immediately. It made her feel like their relationship meant nothing to him.
She hated the misconception that the person who ended the relationship wasn't allowed to be hurt or heartbroken simply because they made the decision to leave; but the truth of the matter was that it was the hardest decision Phoenix had ever had to make and yes, it left her both hurt and heartbroken. If she and Chris could've done anything to make things work, she would've tried it but at the end of the day, they were just holding onto an unhealthy relationship because of their history with one another.
"Oh Phoenix, I know you're hurting but this isn't the way to get past it." He spoke before tossing her a bag of her favorite candy, Hi Chews. Rather than attempting to catch it, she let it hit her in the chest which caused Tom to frown.
"Thankssss."
Rather than replying, Tom retrieved the white nail polish from the shopping bag in front of him and made his way over to Phoenix. He gently lifted her feet before plopping down on the couch and allowing her to rest them on his lap. "I'm gonna paint your toenails white. Is that okay?"
