After hearing about their parents getting remarried, Phoenix's sister, Julie, flew straight from Toronto to Los Angeles to gossip with her younger sister. They had discussed how they were going to go about their mom and dad's new relationship and try to find a way to support them for over 2 hours before Phoenix let it slip that she and Chris had been intimate the night before.
"What do you mean you had sex with Chris?!" Julie questioned.
"I mean I had sex with Chris." Phoenix repeated. "4 times actually. And you wanna know something? It was AMAZING."
"That's just about the dumbest fucking thing you could've done! What an idiot you are!"
"You're absolutely right, Giuliana." Phoenix shrugged. She knew sleeping with Chris wasn't a good idea and that there was no way she could have her cake and eat it too in this scenario. At that point she couldn't even argue or disagree with being called an idiot because her brain warned her against every action she had directed toward Chris the night prior, from calling him up to kissing him to eventually fucking him.
Phoenix was aware that continuing to be intimate with her ex boyfriend was only going to mess them both up in the end; and that it wasn't possible for either of them to get over one another while they were still in contact. However they were like magnets, always being drawn to one another without even trying.
"You can't heal your broken heart by having sex with your ex boyfriend." Julie stated. "You need to block his number."
"Yeah I'm really going to block the man I'm in love with." She responded sarcastically. "What if he needs me and I'm not there for him?"
"That's not your concern, Phoenix! You're not his girlfriend anymore and it's not your job to make sure he's good." Julie crossed her arms. "He has PLENTY of other friends who are willing to help him out of any troublesome situation he gets himself into."
"That's not the point." Phoenix argued. "He's always been there for me including after we were already broken up."
"And what'd that lead to? The two of you fucking each other raw." Julie reminded. "You're not even on birth control anymore, idiot!"
"It wouldn't be the first time." She mumbled under her breath.
"God, you are such an idiot! You don't think, AT ALL." Julie scolded. "What would happen if you got pregnant with Chris's baby?! You can't even sustain a relationship, let alone raise a child together."
"I won't get pregnant with Chris's baby."
"You're not invincible Genevieve." Julie rolled her eyes. "Not only are you dragging your heart around but you're also dragging his. Chris is a man who would go out of his way to do anything for you, even if that meant giving up the things he loved. You need to recognize that and figure out a way to permanently cut off all communication with him, at least for a few months. He's not going to be able to heal while you're still counting on him but most importantly, you're not going to be able to heal either because you're still counting on him!"
"I know." Phoenix sighed.
She knew everything her sister was saying was very valid; however, that didn't make it any easier for her to hear. She knew that every time she made contact with Chris, she was giving them both hope that they'd reconcile sooner rather than later which would only lead to another heartbreak down the line.
Everything she said to Chris when they broke up was true: she wasn't ready to be in a relationship and she needed time to figure out who she was outside of their relationship. In order for her to even begin that process, she needed space from Chris; and by space, she meant zero contact whatsoever. That was the only way the exes would be able to mend their hearts.
