Rian POV

I drop the phone accidentally on the table, surprised by the shocking statement. Teachers and staffs in the office looks at me in curiosity, some even give me stern looks. But I ignore them.

I kneel down, and with shaking hands, I pick up the phone and place it against my ear.

"What did you say?" I managed to whisper.

"When we moved to Korea, I did not know that your grandmother was ill. I had no idea that she was in the hospital the whole time- I'm sorry Rian... I truly did not know-"

"What do you mean you did not know!?!?" I suddenly yell, catching everyone in the office's attention.

"Rian, I-"

"No- just stop!" I bite my lip and slam the phone back into it's original case. Looking up, I notice that the room was dead silent and every teacher was looking at me.

"Is everything okay?" A teacher nearby stands up from her desk, giving me a worried look. I squeeze my fists and look down at my shoes. Without any response, I march out of the room. The bell rang about two minutes ago, so unfortunately, the hallways were crowded.

No matter how hard I tried to hold it in, an unwanted tear slowly rolled down my cheek. As I managed to slowly walk through the hallway, like a drunken person, people gives me confused and surprised looks. I bump into a few people and things, and trip now and then, but no matter what, I continued walking.

Eventually, I make my way up to the roof. Fastening my pace, I run up the stairs and open the door which lead me to the bright and sunny area, which fouled my mood even more. In a time like this, the day should not be beautiful. It should be raining, and the sky should be filled with dark clouds. But its not.

Sniffing, I walk to the bench and sit down. My sniffing soon turned to tears which soon turned to sobs. As I cry, I stare at my fingers that were fidgeting with each other. A memory of my gandmother, before my mother's death, soon played into my mind:

~Flashback~

"Rian! Time for dinner!" My grandmother's unusual loud and strong voice echoed through the sky. I look at the direction where the sound came from, and without hesitation, I jump out of the swing. I run through the tall grasses and slow down my pace once the old house came to my view.

As I walk up the creaky front steps, my grandmother greets me at the door.

"Did you have fun?" Her eyes shined as she talked. I smile and nod as I enter the house. The smell of my delicious dinner immediately relaxed my shoulders. I throw off my shoes and run to the kitchen and stare in amazement at the table. The whole table was covered with all of my favorite meals.

"Jal-mug-get-sum-nida!" I say right when I sit down. (Meaning "I will eat well")

My grandmother laughed. "Wow, that's like the only Korean sentence you know!"

With my mouth full, I smile and say, "It comes handy in life"

"Well, don't forget to save some for your parents!" My grandmother laughed. Today was my birthday, so while my parents were busy searching for my present in the mall, I get to stay with my grandmother until they come back.
