Today, I'm sparring with Roy to assess my combat abilities for him to evaluate before we officially begin the lesson. Personally, I don't think I'll be able to beat out anyone without resorting to magic. Sure, I dealt with monsters before but that's different and I regard sparring with Lorelai and the rangers as a leisure sport.

"She's resilient. It would seem all that running around proves to be useful after all." Chief muses.

"Yes, but she won't last long," Lorelai says with her eyes fixed at the match.

He's fast. I'm focusing too much in blocking his attacks that there's no time for me to look for an opening. I'm being pushed back further that I trip backwards and fell. Roy points his sword at my chest.

"I lose," I say, looking up at him.

Roy sheath his sword then held out his hand at me. I notice that he's not even breaking a sweat.

"How do you feel?" Roy asks.

Before the start of the spar, Roy's instruction is to only use body enhancement magic. The magic allows the caster to strengthen any parts of their body. Thus, increases their physical strength when facing a strong opponent. It also comes with various effects, such as making your weight lighter or heavier, making your skin tough enough to be impenetrable or enhancing your speed. Mint specialises in using body enhancement magic on her legs, making her the fastest ranger in the unit. All I could do is strengthen my hands and feet with an enormous amount of effort.

I can launch various magic spells simultaneously but I have trouble casting it onto myself, despite recovery magic working fine on me. It's like the magic gets mixed with the mana coursing through me and disabling it. When I forced the magic to work, it strains my energy and leaves me exhausted in the end. When Roy pulls me to my feet, it all comes crashing on me. I stumble when a wave of dizziness hits. Nauseous.

Lorelai's faint voice. "I'll bring the healer."

Roy holds my hand firmly while I steady my breathing, facing the ground. My legs buckle and I give up on standing. I lean my body on Bane while sitting on the ground. Roy is still holding on to my hand with a serious face and I could feel a warm sensation flowing through my hand. I can't think straight to question what he's doing. Whatever he's doing, my body feels lighter. Lorelai returns with Maya not long after. The place where I train is not far from the house anyway.

"Your face is pale." Maya inspect. "Did you exert your mana this time?"

I smile vaguely to her.

"I gave her some of mine to steady her body until her breathing calms down a little," Roy says to Maya.

Oh, that's what Roy did, 'Mana Transfer'. It's a magic that transfers a certain amount of mana to another person with depleted mana.

Maya doesn't scold me. Instead, immediately work her recovery magic with Roy standing closely behind her. I'm too exhausted to do it myself. Besides, Maya warns me not to when I'm in this condition. If I push it further, I might collapse from mana exhaustion.
