When Ling Ke and Qi Feng walked out shoulder to shoulder, they couldn’t tell how many people were in the audience because the lights onstage were too bright.

Ling Ke could only see Qi Feng, a dazzling focal point that pulled him along towards the huge grand piano in the middle of the stage.

When they reached the center, Qi Feng suddenly waved Ling Ke to turn towards the audience and gave an elegant bow as shrieks and squeals assaulted them from all directions.

……So many people, too many people.

Ling Ke’s heart started to beat wildly, assaulted by a strong case of stage fright.

Qi Feng acted normally and sat down in front of the piano with Ling Ke. Two microphones had been placed nearby.

Ling Ke took a deep breath, and just as he wondered if they should start playing, Qi Feng pulled over one of the mics and said, “Hello everyone, I’m Qi Feng, and the one sitting next to me is my classmate slash partner, Ling Ke.”

A deep and beautiful voice came out of the large speakers on both sides of the stage, and due to the slight delay in transmission, it gave Ling Ke the illusion that the person talking wasn’t sitting right beside him.

Qi Feng gave Ling Ke a comforting look, then continued, “Next, we’re going to perform for everyone a version of Two Steps From Hell’s Jump! that we we personally modified. We hope you enjoy… …”

Due to this relaxed and steady introduction, miraculously, Ling Ke calmed down.

Qi Feng then placed his left hand on the keys, and Ling Ke followed in putting a single hand in position as well.

Not far away off to the side of the stage, the organizers for this event were currently looking on.

The cultural recreation department’s head exclaimed with surprise, “This guy can sure control the crowd……”

Zhou Yan: “Some people were born to stand on a stage.”

The cultural recreation department’s head: “Are you talking about yourself?”

Zhou Yan smiled without comment.

Qi Feng continued to talk into the mic: “Then, can I ask everyone to clap along as I count down. Let’s all ‘jump’ together, alright?”

Along with the applause came a uniformed cry of, “Ok—!!!” Without a moment’s pause, Qi Feng started to count: “Five, four……”

The entire audience counted with him: “Three—! Two—!”

Qi Feng let go of the mic, exchanged a glance with Ling Ke, and hearing the last “One—!“, the two of them began to play.

Dangdang! Dangdang! Dandang! ……

After a few simple bars, they both added in their other hand, and the melody immediately became richer. Without giving the audience a chance to adjust, the song already invaded and enveloped everyone’s ears!

The advantage of a four-hand duet was this.

It wasn’t suited for playing melodious songs or classical tunes. It was for this kind of elaborate, phonetic symphony, for showcasing a song’s majestic and boundless energy, for performing music so epic it could shake one’s very soul.
