Chapter 28

"How do you feel?" Yuan asked.

"Fine," I guess. I am currently in my room getting examined by Yuan. He asked for my presence every week after the last incident. He said it was just a routine check-up.

"Have you finished the medicine?"

"Yeah, of course," I hand him an empty bottle. I've been curious about what's inside but can't determine just based on its color, shape, and taste. Medical is a localized knowledge and product, thus I need to run several experiments to be able to map it to the terms that I know. With the limitation of time and resources, I am unable to do it.

Yuan let go of my hands after checking my pulse. He scribbles something on his notes before putting it in his pocket and looks at me.

"Are you having any headache this week or feeling tired in general?" Yuan asked me.

I shake my head.

He sighed, then hand me a new bottle of white pills.

"Eat one in the morning after breakfast," he said.

"What's this?" I ask. This looks a bit different than the last one.  "Just vitamins," Yuan said, then he stood up.

"Hey, can I visit the town again?" I ask, hoping.  Staying only in this mansion feels so stuffy.

Yuan sighed. Snow has fallen and the wind has become colder. "If your condition is still good next week... but only when the sun is up," he finally said.

"Thanks," I said smiling. In this season, sun only up for several hours but I think it's better than not at all. Note to myself, visit Nana and asked her what the hell is this medicine.

"What did Yuan said?" Harry asked me as soon as I came out of the room. "He just tells me to eat these every morning," I show him my pills bottle before putting back to my pocket. "Do you know what that is?" I asked. "You are the first person I knew consume that many medicines," Harry replied, "are you sure you are fine?"

"I feel fine," I said. Not lying. I feel just okay these days. "Anyway, Darren will go to some military business next week," I started. "Ah yeah this is the time of the year," Harry mumbled. "And I will go out to town at that time," I continued. "Yuan permit you?" Harry asked. "As long as you accompany me," I said.

"You know Cad, you never need to ask, you just have to tell."

I smiled.

"Lady Aria is here," George said when I enter the room. He doesn't talk to me, he talked to Darren who already sat on the head of the dining table. I head to my usual spot and Harry help pull my chair. Before Darren could replied anything, the main door swung open.

"How are you, big brother," Aria said while barked in. She immediately sat on the chair next to Darren, across me.

"You here?" She said looking at me in a brief moment. "Good evening, Lady Aria," I said giving her a light bow. Even after Darren becomes my partner, I try to still pay respect to those with higher-ranking noble like her, especially if they are an Alpha. To avoid problems... with many exceptions, tho.

"What are you doing here?" Darren asked while putting the meat on his plate.
"What? Can't I visit my dear brother, besides it is me who should be asking that question. What are you doing here? Wasn't you supposed to be with Caleb in the training ground?" She said. A butler put a dinner plate in front of her.

"I'll go next week, there's still so many things to do," Darren answered.

Aria just raised her shoulder while cutting her meat.

"You still haven't answered my question, Ar," Darren said.

"Who's gonna organize the year-end and your birthday party? if I wasn't here," Aria said in the most obvious tone. Not me, of course. I never like stuff involving too many people, but I don't know that Darren's birthday is at the end of the year. Should I buy him something?

"Caden could do it" 

What?

Darren just said the most unthinkable answer. No! Don't give me new jobs, especially not a job like that! 

I ever like stuff involving too many people.

Aria is now looking at me. "You would let me manage the party, right?" she asked, in a commanding tone. "Yes, of course. I think Lady Aria's event organizer will suit the Northern people more," I immediately answered. A task like this should be handled by the Mistress of the house, but no, I won't do that. Instead of feeling embarrassed that my job is being taken over, I feel grateful that I don't need to handle that.

Aria continues her conversation with Darren, stories about their family in the capital, and gossips around nobbles. I don't join high society. Not here, not when I still live in the South. So I don't know about the latest news. Not like I am interested to know. I already lost their conversation and just focus on finishing my dinner. Today's dinner is good. A steak with some mash potato dish. I know that the meat is a high-quality one based on its texture. Unfortunately, the chef doesn't perform well as they made this quality meet into a well-done dish. I prefer medium-rare.

"Do you know about it, Caden?" Aria suddenly asked me.

What was it again?

"Your family should have known that your brother is pregnant. Ah! I can't wait for the new royal baby," Aria continue.

What? Baby? I haven't really contact Caden's family since I woke up.

"I haven't talked to my family these days," I said truthfully. "Oh, you should contact them. They'll sure miss you," Aria makes a judgment on her own. I doubt that but... note to myself, contact my family later.

It's not like I don't want to contact them, but I don't really know about them. One of the hurdles of being me is that I couldn't recall old memories with someone if I haven't made contact in person. Yes, I remember Caden's family. His parents, brother, and sisters' names and looks. But that just it! I couldn't remember what personal relationship Caden have with them.

I currently sat in front of my laptop in the library, preparing thoughts to send a message to them. Three people. Caden's father for formality, his biological sister, Bianca, whom I thought would be his closest sibling, and his little brother, Gwynn, also for congratulations formality.

Don't expect any reply. I promise to myself. 

I gave a long sigh before the typing starts.
