"Don't tell me you've got a boyfriend." The disbelieving look on his mom's face deflated him a little.
Rome could not even look at his dad when he stood up. He hung his head low. No, he was not ashamed, not for being gay. It was the situation he was in. He felt exposed, naked in front of his father's scrutinizing gaze.
His mom sighed. "Can't believe you're so young. And you're having boyfriends?"
He wanted to protest that he was just having one boyfriend, but his father spoke up for the first time since he came inside the house.
"I know, right?" His father shook his head. "You must be getting late for school, so we shall continue this when you get back. But, do invite him over dinner on Saturday."
Rome's mouth hung open. Did he hear them right?
"He looks older, too." His mom said as she peeked outside to take a good look through the kitchen window. His dad joined her and hummed.
That was getting too much. He needed to get out of there before he started to doubt his sanity.
