My eyes darted to the door as Mateo entered through greeting Tyler. His eyes soon landed on me, 'happy 15th birthday Sierra' he calls out. I blushed a little from his cheesy smile enlarged on his face. 'Thank you' I responded then placed my mother's ring on my finger and ran upstairs to grab my things for school.

I came back down to find most of my brothers in the lounge room waiting for me. 'You took long enough' Reid huffs leaving to the car along with Dylan and Kai. I headed out with Mateo to find that we were all sharing the same car today.

I was squished between Kai and Mateo's built statures. 'How come you two always get the front?' I asked with annoyance slipping through as I put on my seatbelt. 'Because I am me, and you are you' Dylan answered patronisingly resulting in a chuckle from Reid.

'Nah, Dylan only sits shotgun because he whinges otherwise' Kai said grinning while he kicked the back of Dylan's seat. Like always Kai sparked my laughter which Dylan was not happy about, 'Kai, you know exactly why I'm here, do I need to explain it?' his cold voice replied as he peaked at the rearview mirror above, back onto Kai. Immediately Kai tensed, 'no' his voice became weaker and his confidence disappeared.

I noticed his sudden change and Dylan's smirk soon was aimed at me, I looked away and stared out the window at the empty streets we were passing at godspeed thanks to Reid's reckless driving. The rest of the drive was quiet as usual but I couldn't help but think, what did Dylan mean?

We arrived at school and I felt nervous as I exited my brother's fancy car along with Mateo. All eyes were on us and that was normal considering the 'kings of the school' were also arriving but this time it felt different. Girls were super interested as Mateo was here as well. Soon we departed from my brothers, they wished me a last happy birthday and headed off to the senior side of the building leaving the rest of the onlookers to realise Mateo wasn't a mate of my brothers but instead mine.

'You popular or something?' he whispered in my ear as we walked side by side through the gates of the school, his taller frame towering over me, making sure to stay at my speed. 'No, they aren't looking at me' I muttered back focusing on getting to the lockers and meeting my friends. 'Well is there someone behind us?' he said sarcastically peaking around to check.

My eyes couldn't help but roll at his profound stupidity. 'Mateo, you're a tall, good looking guy that's walking beside me, do the math' I answered annoyed, emphasising on me, being that he can't be so blind to see the reason why the girls are turning heads in our direction.

I've never liked to be the centre of attention and it was hard enough after the embarrassment my brothers caused on my first day, and now it would continue because of this guy that has to follow me around everywhere. And funny enough, if it's all because of Jeremy's affiliation with the Italian mafia and they believe there is a threat to my safety because of Jer, then they are protecting me against absolutely nothing. Although with their dangerous lifestyle, I could be wrong and a real threat posed before me, I'd have to ask Liam.

We finally entered our side of the building. 'You think I'm good looking?' his low voice sounded in my ear, I could sense his cheesy smirk plastered on his face. I rolled my eyes continuing up the stairs looking at each one as I pass, I could feel the slight brushes against our legs, making my heart beat a little too fast. He kept his eyes fixated on my movements making me feel intimidated but it was as if he was studying me.

'Don't kid yourself' I confidently mumbled out, now walking through the corridor beside his long but few strides that it takes to keep up with me. 'I'm simply asking a valid question Sierra' his smooth voice spoke above my ear again, causing the small baby hairs too gently brush away. Goosebumps filled my body as we started to approach my friends who stood waiting for me at the lockers, gawking at Mateo who now had gently placed his arm around my shoulders.

Their expressions reflected mine, shocked. Shocked that I suddenly felt this warm, strong arm wrap around my tense, narrow shoulders. 'This will be fun' he smirks.

'Ladies and gents, how do we do?' he confidently started keeping a firm hand around me, 'Sierra won't stop going on about you all the time, I'm her best friend since way back' he chuckles warmly. Completely different from the Mateo 5 minutes ago. I hadn't even mentioned any of them to Mateo since I've known him. What is he on about?

Camilla and Zara blushed as he maintained the conversation. 'Brad, Troy, don't panic, I'm not like her brothers' he said smiling, 'well unless..' he adds giving a chuckle, staring down at them both.

'Little Sierra's birthday today, did she tell you that?' he quietly mentioned looking at them all. 'Um no' Camilla replied pretending to be hurt, 'Happy birthday' they all wished me synchronised. 'Thank you guys' I smiled graciously. Mateo returned to conversation.

Zara's eyes found me each time he spoke, her small signing with her face was enough for me to understand exactly what she was thinking, she giggled looking up and down at him then back at me.

'My height a problem for you Zara?' Mateo intervenes her eye gestures, breaking our interaction. Her face drops, 'n-no uh' she stutters trying to recompose herself. 'Only kidding, I know you were just checking out this "tall, good looking" body as Sierra puts it herself' he chuckles motioning the quoting signs, placing his other hand on her shoulder to reassure her before he turns his eyes to meet mine and grins.

Laughter erupts between us all as I defend myself from his words 'hey, I said that's what everyone else is thinking' I exclaimed. 'Then what do you think of me?' he asked flatly in his low husky voice, his honey eyes lost in mine.

I blush as all eyes are on me, 'I think that we should be getting to class Mateo' I change the topic and lucky enough the bell rings at my answer. Brad, Camilla and I all had History, we all walked over to class and sat down before the next bell rang. Like Reid, Mateo seemed to have shared some knowing look with the teacher as she didn't question his presence. The row sat Mateo, me, Camilla and Brad.

I talked with Brad and Camilla about everything, they serenaded me with another happy birthday which warmed me, feeling loved.

I originally thought that I'd be avoiding my bodyguard and completely ignoring him but I came to feel guilty as my back had been fully turned to him for 40 minutes. I mean he's nicer and funnier than I thought he'd be, he is just following my brother's orders after all.

'One sec guys, I just need to ask Mateo something' I informed them and turned around to face his honey brown eyes threatening to close as he focused on whatever we were learning. 'How did you know them?' my soft voice asked tilting my head to gesture towards Brad and Camilla behind me. His gaze soon shifted to me, his eyes widen and smirk forming. 'Sierra, I've done my homework'
