----------
FITZ'S POV
----------

He was walking down the empty hallways, only the sound of his heels hitting the floor can be heard even from afar.

He's screwed.

He was in deep thought this morning that when the bell rang, he realized he was going the wrong way.

In fact, he realized it a little too late. To be precise, it was when all prodigies have scampered away to their designated rooms, and he was still out there, simply walking.

He sighed, knowing full well that this incident would land him in detention. If he's lucky enough, maybe his mentor wasn't present as well.

Though that was only wishful thinking.

Speaking of detention, his mind wandered to another thing he can never forget. He kept on walking, his eyes focused on the ground.

If he let Keefe went to detention that day, they would've found out sooner that Sophie was not there- that she was missing.

But, because he let his jealousy take over him, they missed the chance.

If it weren't for him...

If it weren't for him...

If it weren't for me, she would have been safe. He thought.

"Who would have been safe?"

He jerked up, turning his head around a little too fast that he ended up hurting his neck in the process.

"Oh, are you okay?" The voice said as it went closer to him. He didn't need to look anymore, he'd recognize that voice anywhere.

"Sophie?" He asked, meeting her gaze. He saw her brown eyes looking back at him with a hint of concern mixed in it.

"What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be at your morning session?" He said as he was rubbing his nape.

"I should be asking you the same thing." She  chuckled.

I missed this. He thought, further stretching his neck to ease up the earlier pressure.

"What? Skipping class?" Sophie asked, her eyebrows furrowed as she looked at him.

"You're reading my thoughts?" Fitz asked.

"Oh! I'm sorry. You see, Sandor explained the situation to my teacher, and then she said I could take the day off, so I was walking around that corner..." she said as she pointed to where she came from "and then, I saw that Telepathy was my next session, so I thought I'd try practicing and then I caught up one thought which I figured was a student skipping class, but yeah it turned out to be you." She explained with little hand gestures, which made Fitz laugh a bit.

"Hey, some little tip before class, we're not supposed to read someone's thoughts without their permission." Fitz reminded her, which is the very first, and most important law for Telepaths like them.

"But they won't know?" Sophie said as she tilted her head on one side.

Fitz blushed, but tried hard not to think that she looks cute with just that simple move. She can still probably read his thoughts as of the moment, so it's safer not to think at all.
