I remember that day. It was late in the summer. It was hot. I ran around the backyard with my sisters. The smile of their little faces was brighter than ever. It was a happy moment but the air felt thick and heavy. I looked up at my parents. I remember the sadden look on their faces. It was like they lost a part of them every time they saw the smile on my sister's faces. Everyone knew what was coming. Everyone but them. I locked eyes with my mother and she smiled but I could see the pain in her eyes. She whispered to my father and then focused back on me nodding. "They're coming." She mouthed. I nodded back knowing what I had to do. I promised that I would always protect them no matter what.
