REINCARNATE

Flashback

Y/n stifled a yawn, it was a warm afternoon and the sun was shining through the window onto her seat. She propped her chin up with an arm, trying to stay awake as she listened to her teacher drone on about the anatomy of the digestive system.

'Stay. Awake.' She mentally chanted to herself over and over, realizing that it was hopeless. Glancing over to where Suna sat in the desk beside her she saw that he was already fast asleep, y/n snorted.

She eventually gave in, drifting in and out of consciousness as her mind wandered around memory lane. 

Approximately 2 1/2 years ago, the summer before y/n entered her first year of high school.

"Y/n! Congratulations!"

Y/n beamed with pride as she felt herself sandwiched between the hugs of two boys, one with tousled black hair and dark eyes, the other dyed golden blonde and eyes the colour of honey. She had just made what possibly could be her biggest achievement ever, being accepted into one of the most talented volleyball teams in the nation, the Hokkaido Rattlesnakes.

"Kenta let go, you're all sweaty." Y/n teased, pushing the tall male away.

"Come and meet your new team." Rintarou grabbed y/n's hand and pulled her towards the centre of the gym where the players waited.

'Wow, they're even bigger up close.'

At 5'3 y/n was the shortest and one of the youngest. Her blue eyes scanned the players standing before her, excitement fizzing through her body at the thought of her standing alongside them.

One by one, they introduced themselves to her. Y/n greeted the coaches first, then turned to the lineup of players who gazed curiously at their new teammate.

"Ishikawa Akane, I'm the captain and I'm a right side. It's nice to meet you." Ishikawa smiled warmly at the little girl bouncing with happiness in front of her. She had been one of the people who, unfortunately, doubted her initially because of her age and size but that was before she watched y/n play. Now she held no other feeling for y/n other than admiration and pride. As Ishikawa was also a first year when she was accepted, she couldn't help but see a trace of herself in y/n, you're a little monster for sure.

"Suzuki Riku, middle blocker." He grinned, towering over her from a massive height of 6'5.

"Nakamura Rintarou, middle blocker." Rin addressed her formally like the rest of his teammates but he secretly winked at her, making y/n flush.

"Tanaka Kenta, outside hitter."

"Saito Akari, I'm the current setter."

They went down the line, each player introducing themselves to her and y/n listened respectfully. However, as she approached the end of the lineup she couldn't help but feel worry blossom inside her.

"Kobayashi Mei, libero." She was a couple years older than y/n and had been on the team longer than anyone else. Mei looked down at her replacement, she had recently retired from the team, deciding to focus on her studies and finished her years in college.

Y/n gazed at Kobayashi nervously, the libero was quite incredible and y/n worried about how she felt about being replaced by a high school first year. Mei seemed to read her thoughts and she put a firm hand on y/n's shoulder, looking into the younger girl's eyes.
