Chapter 15.
Hangawi festival.

They had a complete rehearsal the night before the Hangawi festival.

Another guest joined Poong Wol Joo that night when they finished the dance. Their teacher got up and introduced, "she is Princess Sook-myeong. For the time being, she will be staying here. She will give a lot of insight for you."

The Princess' face was straight, betraying no emotion. She reminded everyone of the strict Queen Dowager.

"What are you good at Princess?" an outgoing Hwarang dared to ask.

The Princess didn't reply. Instead she performed, her sword deadly as it cut through the wind and he body graceful as she moved. Everyone was stunned. "Well this much," she said humbly though there was a sharp edge to her voice.

Ji-dwi looked down as he let out a small smile. His sister was just how he remembered. Her striking resemblance to his mother was surprising.

Without further prompting, she walked to the front. "I have heard that this festival to the capital will be a ceremony to introduce the Hwarang for the first time. There should not be any mistakes. Do you understand?" she said evenly but her voice bore the weight of a direct order. A direct order from a royal.

Sa-do nudged Ji-dwi drawing his attention. "Can you stop smiling like an idiot?" she whisper-hissed making him very confused. Why did him smiling bother her so much? Sa-do ignored his questioning look and insisted that they practiced again.

...

On the night of the Hangawi festival everyone was in a tent, getting ready for the ceremony. They were all wearing the official Hwarang uniform, which was red and black instead of the blue, white, purple one that they usually wore.

Sa-do had changed into the red tunic already before leaving Seonmoon to avoid having to change around so many men. She was struggling to tie the leather shoulder straps. "Here," Seon-woo said as he took the straps from her and tied it quickly before heading back to his seat. Sa-do just gave him a grateful nod. She was extremely nervous about today and it felt like someone had poured dry sand down her throat, muting her.

"Here. This is our reinforcement who will help us," Yeo-wool suddenly said as he entered the tent with Ah-ro in tow.

Ah-ro looked way too uncomfortable but hesitantly offered, "well if there is something you need tell me. I will help you." Her anxious eyes met Sa-do's across the room and the other gave a barely visible nod assuring that she would help the doctor if trouble arose. Han-seong asked Ah-ro to help with his belt.

Sa-do had barely taken two steps when another Hwarang tapped her shoulder. She turned back and he handed her a leather shoulder pad. "Jae-won can you tie this?" he asked and Sa-do unsurely reached out for the object but someone else got to it first, shoving her hand out of the way.

"I got it," Ji-dwi mumbled as he put the leather item on properly, stepping in front of her, almost hiding her. Sa-do was surprised. Not because of the offered help. She was used to this kind of things by now. If any of the other Hwarangs ever asked her for something like this, her roommates would always step in. This was no different.
