Walking down the marble halls of the grand palace, the other deities of the area heading in the same direction, you wondered what was so big it would cause the rulers of the aether to call an emergency meeting. You hadn't had one of these since the Black Death, or was it the First World War? You couldn't remember it'd been that long. Whatever it was it was bad.

Entering the ballroom, the other gods and goddesses looked up at the top of the stairs where the ruler stood, looking worried. You turned to the girl next to you, tapping her shoulder.

"Do you know what's going on?" You asked.

"Not the details. But apparently the human realm is having some kind of crisis. A god of life noticed an imbalance in lives and deaths and bought it to the attention of the elders apparently" she explained.

"That's odd, is there some kind of mass death?"

"It seems like it, but I have no idea how it got this bad"

The chatter was silenced by the ruler ringing a bell, getting everyone's attention.

"I'm sure you're all wondering why I called you all here. And I'm sure some of you may already have noticed. But the human realm is having a major death toll at the moment. It turns out a rouge Shinigami as dropped his book, a human had picked it up and started killing criminals. He has the end goal of becoming a god himself. Of course we can't let this happen but we are indeed unable to take the book back as we don't know what human has it. I want you all to keep a very close eye on the human realm, if intervention is necessary, you are allowed to do so. The humans have started calling this figure Kira. For now we just watch and help if necessary. I want to avoid having to declare war on the Shinigami Realm. Understand?"

The crowd broke the silence for a moment to respond with a yes.

"Now. Deities of life I want you in particular to watch those who are criminals. Even criminals deserve a chance at life even if it's in prison for their crimes. Deities of fertility, to put a balance back in life and death, I want you to watch those who are trying for kids and give them a little push. And finally deities of peace, do all you can to try and bring crime rates down. We can't let kira continue like this, soon enough the innocent will start being killed, children in juvenile detention centres have already been targeted. We must protect the human race at all costs. And remember the way of a deity, no matter the age, race, gender or innocence everyone is equal in the eyes of death. We must do our job and keep them safe. Any questions can be asked to my team, you may leave"

You stood there for a moment as people started to leave. Kira? A human had a notebook huh? That explained why the human realm was awfully loud recently. Maybe it was worth looking at the human realm again, it'd been years since you'd done so. Even longer since you'd walked among them. The Victorian era to be exact, the music and balls always fascinated you.

Making your way out of the castle again, the chatter of deities around you began to die down as you turned to the path that lead to the window garden. The place where windows to look at the human realm were. It seems a few gods and goddesses had the same idea as you, heading in the same direction. You spread your feathered wings, taking off to look for a quiet spot in the garden. Trees of ambrosia and rose bushes littered the grass below you, windows in the form of small ponds scattered here and there. The garden of windows was massive and spread across all regions of the aether. Every time a human is born a pond appears, and when one dies, a flower takes its place.

You flew pretty far out, coming to a landing in a dead silent section of the garden. You walked down the paths, looking for a pond that caught your interest. At the end of a path, was a ring of roses and one single pond in the middle. It made you sad. Usually a ring of roses means that those around the pond of the person alive had all died. You walked up to it, looking down at the plaque beside it.
