Time long gone,

Yet the memories remain strong.

Family love lasts so long.

The familiar aroma of home

And, of my dad, sister, and mom.

My childhood room has changed

Yet remains still the same.

I remember each and every poster.

Each coaster I ignored.

The loud, obnoxious way I snored.

Each ivory carpet had a stain

To commemorate its initiation

Into the family for good.

I remember the days I ran

And the halls seemed endless

In white trim!

The forbidden garage

Where we'd play ball to dodge

The summer heat.

My aging dad was beat,

Mowing The hilly steep.

Only taking refuge in

The limited shade of

The Japanese cherry tree.

It's too neat now that...

My sister and I have flown the coop.

Too stocked up with goodies

To not sometimes secretly call my own.

The safety was unparalleled.
