3rd person POV:
Everyone was still in shock.
Jazmyn and Jonah took it the worst. And who knows how Isabel will take it.
The small group sat comforting each other. Jonah though, distanced himself from the group, sitting in a chair in the corner. His face expressionless.
Although he had only known Kelly for a few days, they had clicked right away, and from the few times they had hung out, he had seen her make numerous people smile, and she always had a positive vibe. Not to mention he had a small hope, that maybe someday, they could be a couple.
He wanted this whole thing to just be a dream, or a very sick joke. But he knew that it wasn't. And he knew there was nothing he could do, but know that she was in a better place.
Jazmyn had known Kelly since she was little, since she and Isabel always hung out. She was one of the main reasons that Isabel was still safe and happy. And Jazmyn was grateful for their friendship, and for Kelly helping Isabel when she couldn't. For these reasons and many more, Jazmyn was beyond devastated at the news.
She was sobbing in the waiting room, being comforted by Daniel, who had his own tears. She was sobbing for the loss of a friend, but also someone she had considered as her own sister.
She couldn't help but think about what would happen when Issa would find out.
Everyone's mournful thoughts were interrupted by the opening of the doors to the intensive care unit.
"Where is she?! Where is my daughter?!" A woman in her forties ran to the receptionist desk yelling. Her light brown hair up in a tight bun, and her attire showed that she was a businesswoman. A black pencil skirt, white button up blouse, and black stilettos.
"Um... May I get your name miss?" Amber asked at the desk.
"I-I'm Gina Bennett. They called me for my daughter Kelly. They said she was d-dead. But I don't believe them! Please tell me she is alright." Gina pleaded, her brown eyes begging for the information they gave her to be wrong.
"I'm sorry miss. Let me get someone out to speak with you." Amber said sympathetically.
"No. No. No! They have to have the wrong person. My daughter cannot be dead. S-she just can't." They women said breaking down in front of Amber.
Jonah came to the rescue, holding Gina and bringing her to the waiting area as she cried, and Amber called someone to talk to Gina.
"Mrs.Bennett, it's going to be okay. She's resting now. She was a light to so many people. You should be very proud of her." Jonah said, sitting Gina down. And although he tried comforting her, it was hard when he himself was on the verge of breaking.
"Th-thank you. I-I just can't believe it. Why her? Why?!" She cried out putting her head in her hands.
"Gina?" Jazmyn said sadly.
"Oh my dear, Jazmyn." Gina said, seeing a familiar face, and quickly standing up to embrace her. They just stood there, hugging each other, and sobbing.
"Parents of Kelly Bennett?" The gruff man was back.
"I'm her mother." Gina immediately said, wiping the tears off her face.
"If you would like, you may see her, and there are some officers to explain what happened." He said.
"Please." She managed to say.
"Will the father of Ms.Bennett also be coming?" The man said, needing to know whether or not they needed to wait.
"Um. No. H-he is on a business trip. He said he couldn't make it." Gina said quietly.
The man nodded, not pushing for more information, as he gestured for her to follow him through the doors that lead to the back.
As they left, everyone was in disbelief. A father, who was just informed that his daughter passed away, doesn't come because he is on a business meeting? What kind of selfish act was that?
Another officer, maybe in his thirties, comes out of the back. He had a stocky build, and his black hair swept to the side.
"Good evening. I'm here to explain the events of this afternoon's accident." He started, and all eyes focused on him, as they were desperate to know what happened.
"This afternoon around 3, Isabel Valentina Rodriguez and Kelly Madelyn Bennett were t-boned, or hit on the side, by a semi truck that failed to stop at the intersection." A round of gasps could be heard from around the room.
"Due to the unfortunate circumstances, Ms.Bennett was killed on impact. Ms.Rodriguez has severe injuries, but is still alive at this time. The semi truck's driver was injured, but his injuries are not as severe as Ms.Rodriguez's." Before the man could continue, Jonah stood up abruptly, jaw clenched.
"So you're telling me that the son of a bitch who killed Kelly is still alive." He half yelled at the officer, not specifically mad at him, but utterly upset at the driver.
"Jonah." Both Corbyn and Daniel said, trying to get their friend to calm down.
"No! He killed Kelly. Tell me he is going to jail. Tell me that man will pay. If not I will make him pay." Jonah said, his eyes filled with anger and pain as his hands formed fists.
"Jonah! Please stop." Jazmyn pleaded, pulling on Jonah's arm. Jonah just shrugged her off, getting madder by the second.
"Sir, I understand this is difficult, but making threats will do nothing but make it worse for yourself." The officer said, giving a warning look to Jonah. "And to answer your question, the driver was charged with manslaughter, and will be going to jail, but he has a bond."
"A bond?! He killed someone and you give him a fucking bond?!" Jonah practically screamed.
"Sir please calm down. He didn't purposefully murder Ms.Bennett, which means it was an accident." The officer said, obviously not wanting this to escalate.
"It may have not been on purpose but she's still dead because of him! It wasn't an accident if he was the one who didn't stop!"
"Sir I'm not allowed to give you any other information than that. If any of you need counseling or anything at all, do not hesitate to ask." The officer said, starting to walk away.
"I can't believe this!" Jonah said sitting down and pulling at his hair.
"Jonah, there is nothing we can do. It wasn't premeditated, so he can't be fully charged with murder. You have to understand." Corbyn said, trying to calm him down. Corbyn being the second oldest, knew that he was the one Jonah might listen to the most in this situation.
"No. YOU don't understand. That man k-killed Kelly! Because he didn't think to stop at the red fucking light. H-he needs to pay Corbyn. He has to. H-he just has to." Jonah's voice cracked, and the tears he had tried to keep in for so long started to pour down his face.
"Oh Jonah." The entire group embraced him as he began to sob.
The only thing louder than his sobs was the sudden scream they heard, which came from Gina Bennett, who had just been shown her lifeless daughter.
