3rd person POV:
Lost.
That was the word that described Isabel the best at the moment. She didn't know why her life always seemed to be falling apart. Her world as she knew it had changed, and was going to keep changing. For better, or for worse, she didn't know.
What she did know, was that her best friend was gone, and her first real love left her.
And so, she was lost. Lost because she couldn't find where to go next. Lost because she didn't know what life would be without them. Lost because everything she ever knew, could've very well have been a lie.
She was getting discharged from the hospital today. She couldn't wait to get out of there. Where she would go? That was still to be decided. And yet through all the pain she endured, she had a smile on her face.
She smiled because she knew Kelly was looking down on her, and would probably want her to be happy. She smiled because she was leaving the hospital. She smiled, because if she didn't, she would probably be crying.
"Alright, when you're ready you can come to the waiting room, Issa." Jazmyn said, and Isabel just nodded. Jazmyn left Issa quietly so she could be in her own thoughts.
Issa just stared out the window of the hospital room, looking down at all the parked cars, people walking in and out. It all seemed so rushed. So... routine. They all had places to be, yet they all took time out to come see loved ones, or help them.
The more Isabel thought about it, the more she thought about hospitals; a place filled with pain and hurt, but it normally brings more people together than apart.
Her thoughts were interrupted by the door to her hospital room swinging open. She didn't care to see who it was. She just stayed in her spot by the window, leaning on her crutches.
"Isabel." Someone whispered, almost like they were afraid to speak.
"Hi Daniel." She said casually, as if nothing happened. She stared blatantly out the window.
He started to speak after a moment of silence. "Please hear me out, I-"
"Daniel," Isabel said loud enough to cut him off, and he immediately stopped speaking.
"Have you ever noticed how hospitals are filled with so much pain? But yet it tends to bring many families and people together." She said pausing, and Daniel internally shivered at the calmness in her voice.
"In our case though, I don't really think it brought us together. Quite the opposite actually." She chuckled dryly.
"Isabel you have to-" Daniel started, trying to find a way to explain to her how he actually felt.
"I have to what, Daniel?" She snapped. But she immediately caught herself, and took a deep breath, not wanting to escalate the situation. "I just. I can't believe I ever trusted you. I feel so defenseless now. So... Defeated." She sighs, and at that moment Daniel knew he could never undo this mistake.
"You know, all the happy memories always come back to me here and there, but the people... they never do." Isabel said sadly, turning on her crutches to look at Daniel.
"Did you ever mean any of the things you said to me?" She asked quietly. Daniel slowly nodded his head up and down, holding back tears. Of course he meant everything he said. He just couldn't tell her the truth. Isabel nodded back softly, acknowledging the fact that maybe it was all an act.
"Well, I can tell you she's a beautiful lady." She said referring to Jess. "I really hope that she makes you happy Daniel." She added, giving a small smile as she looked into his eyes, which now held sadness.
She wasn't doing this, was she? Daniel couldn't believe what she just said. She was just giving up on him that easily? And she was supporting his relationship with Jess? He couldn't speak. He had to somehow make her realize he didn't have a choice.
"And maybe all this happened to me because... because maybe, in the end, I was always meant to be alone." She whispered as a tear ran down her cheek. She kept a smile on her face, but if you looked into her eyes, you could tell she was broken and hurt.
Daniel just stood there, frozen. What was he supposed to do?
All he could mutter out was a small, "I'm so sorry angel." His eyes pleading for forgiveness.
The nickname made Isabel break and heavy tears began to roll down her face. But Isabel couldn't find it in herself to forgive him at that moment.
"Just know, that I'll always love you, through the good and through the bad." She said softly. "Goodbye Daniel." She sighed, and quickly kissed his cheek, trying to get past him.
He tried to make her listen by putting his arm in front of her and trying to tell her how he felt, but nothing came out. She just pushed him away and quickly made her way out of the room before he could say anything. Well, as quickly as her crutches would let her.
As she made her way to the waiting area where her friends were waiting, Corbyn realized Daniel didn't come back with her, and he could only assume the talk hadn't gone well. As he ran back to Isabel's hospital room, he found Daniel sitting on the hospital bed, his head in his hands.
"Daniel, what happened?" Corbyn asked quietly. Sure he was still mad at Daniel, but he hated seeing him like this. After all, he was his best friend.
Daniel looked up, the hurt apparent in his eyes. "I lost her."
