3rd person POV:
"Officer? Can we go to see Isa-Ms.Rodriguez now?" Daniel asked the officer.
After crying for a good hour, the group took their own seats, still taking in everything that had happened. They then decided that since only two people could go see Isabel, that Jazmyn and Daniel would go. Even though Isabella had wanted to go, she didn't know if she wanted to see Isabel right then and there. She wanted to get herself together first, so she said Daniel could go first, which he was most grateful for.
"Yes sir. She is the last room to the right, down this hallway." The officer said, pointing down a hospital hallway.
"Thank you Officer." Daniel said, and not even two seconds later he and Jazmyn were practically sprinting down the hallway. They stopped in front of her room, slightly out of breath. They weren't sure whether they actually wanted to go in or not.
Daniel couldn't wait any longer, and he looked at Jazmyn, who nodded her head slowly. He slowly pushed down on the handle, opening the door.
They went through a short and narrow hallway that had a coat hanger and some medical supplies. As they made it to the main room, they stopped at the open door way.
The small room was almost completely white. The floor being utterly spotless. It had a brown couch on the far end, and a bookshelf on the right when you first walked in. A painting of a sunrise was hung right above the bookshelf, perfectly centered.
The environment felt... lonely. But also perfectly ordinary.
But Daniel and Jazmyn didn't notice any of this at first.
What they did notice was the fragile girl who lay on the bright white hospital bed. Her dark hair was messily put into a braid that hung over her shoulder, most likely done by the doctors in order to keep it out of the way. Her blue eyes didn't show, as her eyelids were closed, and her face was as pale as ever.
The scar across her forehead was the most pronounced, showing stitches. That must have been one of the injuries that was more severe. There were numerous cuts on her arms, which lay motionless on the blanket that was covering the bottom half of her body. IVs and other medical equipment were attached to her frail body. A mask over her face to keep her breathing steadily. The only sound in the room was the constant beeping of the monitor next to the bed.
Jazmyn sucked in a breath, covering her mouth with her hands. She slowly made her way to the side of the bed, while Daniel just stayed stuck in his place.
Muttering prayers and small talk, Jazmyn sat on the corner of the hospital bed, holding her unconscious sister's hand. How she wished this hadn't happened. She would do anything to keep her sister alive.
What if she hadn't come to visit her for her. What would have happened then? She would have never known what had happened to her.
But she was there. And she wasn't leaving anytime soon. She was so thankful that she could be here with her. And it was all because of Kelly.
Kelly. The one who had paid with her life. But she was in a better place now. That was the only thing helping Jazmyn to get through this. Knowing she was at peace now.
After about 15 minutes, Jazmyn stood up, trading spots with Daniel.
Daniel sat lightly on the bed, making sure not to disturb her peace, as he grabbed Isabel's right hand. He sat there, softly rubbing circles on her hand with his thumb. He had no idea what to say. Or if she could even hear him. He just wanted to comfort her. To be able to take her place, and take her pain away if she had any.
However, he knew he couldn't do that. And he felt so empty. He felt useless. Because he couldn't do anything. Nothing. He didn't know if she would even hear anything he said.
He was so drained. Mostly emotionally. He had never felt like this. He wanted it all to go away. For it all to be okay again. Because he wouldn't know what he would do without Isabel. She meant so much to him. Even if she never knew that.
He didn't realize it, but small and silent tears raced down his face.
Nevertheless he had a hope. A hope that maybe she could hear him. And maybe she would wake up soon. And because of that hope, he decided to say the only thing that came to mind at the moment.
The only thing that made sense to him, even if she didn't feel the same way. He knew he had to say it, because if he didn't, he wasn't sure if there would be another opportunity to say it.
And Daniel didn't regret it, when he whispered, "I love you."
