Lea awoke to the sound of more sirens. At this rate, they'd morphed into background noise for her.
Opening her eyes, she gazed up at the ceiling. Her back was in knots, the table underneath her rock hard. What she would do to be back in her own bed...
Sitting up, she saw Pope awake too, slumped on the next table over. Turning over, he glanced at her before looking sheepish. Last night's events came flooding back.
"Morning," Lea said, smiling softly. She wasn't in the mood to fight.
"Morning, Lee." Pope returned the smile.
Jumping up, Lea walked around the back, trying to find water. "He's pinched for sure, man." JJ stood by the entrance, watching police cars drive past.
"No." Pope walked over to him, leaning against the doorframe. "They wouldn't still be patrolling if they caught him."
"Let's hope," JJ didn't sound convinced.
Lea opened the fridge, grabbing four water bottles. Feeling guilty, she quickly moved to the till, adding them to her ongoing tab. Wincing at the total cost of all her snack breaks during shifts, she moved back out to the restaurant floor.
"You know, we were in that car. They're probably looking for us too." Kie sat up, awake.
Lea threw a water bottle in Kie's direction, everyone pondering the fact that they're wanted criminals too.
She only hoped they'd put a good photo on her wanted poster, and not an ugly one.
"Well, if we're gonna be outlaws, we might as well help John B." Pope declared, determined. Lea handed him a water bottle, but he left it on the table, grabbing his keys instead.
"So, find him before they do?" Lea threw JJ's water to him before opening hers.
"Pope?" JJ called out, worried as Pope began walking out of the door.
"I'm gonna get gas for the boat."
"Hey, you be careful." Kie called softly, still sat on her table. "Okay?"
Pope looked at her for a second before turning back to Lea and JJ. "Meet me at the dock at three. Don't be late."
Lea nodded, her eyes darting between Kie and Pope. The door clicked shut behind Pope.
As Kie walked out after him, Lea sighed rolling her eyes, "here we go again."
"What the hell is your problem?" Kie raged, running after Pope.
JJ and Lea walked out behind, waiting at the door.
"No problem officer, I'm just doing my job," Pope climbed onto his bike.
"Look, I'm sorry that I hurt your feelings." Kie shouted, but Pope was revving the bike's engine so he wouldn't hear.
