Guerreros Kingdom
November 30: Selection Day

There's nothing you can hear but metals clanking as swords clash against one another, silver armors getting all rusty and dirty as the warrior princesses fall to the ground while dueling.

All the warrior princesses either tie their hair, cut them into short bobs, or pixies. Their hair is a nuisance to them, especially when fighting.

Just then — a brunette princess with an undercut pixie, bangs falling in front of the curved scar under her right eye — suddenly collapsed.

She had light brown eyes which gave off an orange glimmer every time the sun hits it, dry downward-turned lips, and tanned skin, just like most of the other warrior princesses who bask under the sun for almost 16 hours in a day.

"Princess Genevieve, stand up!" a guy called out. It was Genevieve's father. They were known as the top ranking family. The roughest of the rough, and the bravest of the brave.

All the warrior princesses are currently inside an arena. They were all fighting using swords, for fairness' sake.

Numerous princesses have been taken down already, and they were escorted by the warrior princes outside of the arena.

Other princesses were still fighting, as well as the two who were being watched by almost everyone.

Princess Genevieve was currently having a duel with Princess Alexandra, the second in the ranks. This is how they choose the five princesses.

They make them duel, and the last five standing were always the ones that the current Warrior Queen chose. It was the tradition in Guerreros Kingdom. They wanted the best for their kingdom, and so the best warrior princess must be chosen.

Genevieve stood up and then held her sword tightly as she glared at Alexandra. Princess Alexandra couldn't help but smirk. Even though her family was second in rank and Genevieve's was the first, she's still significantly stronger. Much better, and much more capable than the other.

Her father saw Genevieve's legs trembling, a sign that she's pushing herself too hard already. Even though her father honored their title as the strongest warriors, he loved her daughter.

Even if they weren't related by blood. She was a very sweet, independent, and strong princess. He knew that their title put some kind of burden on her, and that's the reason why she wanted to succeed. But what's more important for her father is not her success, but her safety.

He was just about to throw a white cloth as a sign of surrender but a loud whistle was heard. The duel has ended.

All five princesses who were still standing and panting slightly, looked around and confirmed that they were one of the chosen five.

Genevieve was ecstatic. She did it. She succeeded. She couldn't help the smile that slowly formed on her lips. Her eyes glimmered as he looked at her father who was proudly looking at her as well.

I did it. But her joy was quickly tuned down when she heard Alexandra scoff at the side.

"Hey, you just passed this test. You're not queen yet. And you'll never be queen," she said before walking away, leaving her there, thinking.

And then, her father approached her. "Genevieve, you make me so proud!" he pulled her into a tight embrace, and she hesitantly hugged him back.

Her father felt this heavy aura around her, and he knew she was nervous. Agad siyang bumitiw sa yakap at saka hinawakan siya sa magkabilang balikat. He looked her in the eye and gave a comforting gaze. "It's okay if you won't become queen, okay? I just want you to enjoy. Don't feel pressured. I'll still love you, queen or not."

Princess Genevieve smiled at her father's advice. "Yeah, Dad. Of course."

Muli, napatingin siya sa paligid, and the four other princesses came into her view.

Princess Alexandra. The princess from the family in second rank. Just beneath them, but she's definitely stronger than her. She's very determined to become a queen, and definitely much more capable to be one.

Princess Eugenie. A princess from a family in the middle ranks. She's the easygoing type. It doesn't matter to her if she becomes queen, she's just overjoyed at the fact that she's one of the five princesses.

I'm jealous. I want to be relaxed too.

Genevieve continued looking at the other two princesses.

Princess Jasmine. A princess from the low ranks. She's pretty loud, and definitely kind. She's also determined to become queen. She wants to prove that princesses from the low ranks can be as strong as the ones at the top.

And lastly, Princess Natalia. She's from the family in the third rank. She's quiet and reserved. She doesn't talk much, and it seems like evey word that comes out of her mouth costs a fortune. Genevieve can't read her. Is she like Eugenie who doesn't care about the throne? Or like Alexandra and Jasmine that would want the throne more than anything?

Princess Genevieve felt anxious. She has to become queen. If she doesn't, she'll make her family drop down to the middle rank. She doesn't want that. Her family worked so hard to be at the top, and she doesn't want to drag them down.

Even though her family told her that it's okay for her to not be queen, that it's okay if they go down in the ranks, that what's important is she's happy, she couldn't help but think otherwise.

She wanted to give the satisfaction of success to her family, more than anything. And becoming queen is exactly what will give them that.

They quickly went back to their stone houses, and got their things ready. Armor, sword, and other personal things, maybe for theirselves, or for shining their armors.

After that, all of the royals in Guerreros Kingdom stood by the gate, waiting for the royal horses to arrive. The five princesses stood in a straight line by the gate, their fathers or mothers along with their brothers, standing right behind them.

Warriors are known to not have love interests. That's why all princesses and princes are single parents. Love is the least of their concerns. What matters most to them is honor and family.

And then, the royal horses arrived. The Warrior Queen was not in some carriage, instead, she was on a separate horse as well. Five other horses were tied to her hands and followed behind.

She got down from it and then gazed at the five princesses who were now bowing deeply. She smiled and then took her sword out, placing the tip gently on the top of each of their heads, and reciting these words, "May the best warrior princess win."

Matapos niyang gawin 'yon ay binigay niya ang mga tali sa lima, at agad na sumakay sa kanyang kabayo. So the others followed suit.

They got on separate horses and followed the queen as they rode their horses towards the large open gate.

Genevieve glanced behind one more time and saw her father, along with her brothers.

I'll make you proud. I'm going to do whatever it takes to be queen.
