We were here - The Silvermoon pack of the Alpha king of wolves - after days of travel but before entering the territory, I turned around to face Ethan. He stopped in his tracks, his small figure a stark contrast to the intimidating world we were about to enter.

My hand slipped into my pocket, and I pulled out the pendant. His eyes widened in shock before softening, tears pooling as they stared at the piece of jewelry.

"How?" he whispered, his voice trembling with a mixture of awe and confusion.

"It took a lot of effort to get this back," I said softly, my own voice thick with emotion. "This pendant holds not only your mother's ring but your father's wedding ring too. So, don't do anything reckless again. Promise me you won't."

He nodded solemnly as I placed the pendant around his neck, its weight a symbol of the sacrifices made and the love that bound us.

We stood near the border, and without wasting a moment, I masked my scent. Unlike other wolves, I possessed abilities beyond the norm—such as masking my scent and controlling the elements. I could even influence others' minds, though I never fully understood why. These gifts were a burden, one that led my parents to leave me in the woods, shaping the life I now lead.

Ethan noticed the shift in my scent, his eyes reflecting understanding of my abilities, though I had never explicitly explained them to him. He had observed my training and battles but never questioned the source of my strength. We waited, tension mounting, as the guards and the Alpha were supposed to arrive.

Minutes ticked by, and the silence grew heavy. Ethan's impatience was palpable.

"Do you smell that?" Ethan asked, his voice edged with worry.

"Rogues!" my wolf growled in anger, her voice laced with menace as I pushed Ethan behind me.

"Run. Get inside the pack territory and find anyone you can. Warn them and get help," I urged, giving him a gentle but firm shove into the territory.

"What about you?" Ethan called out, his voice tinged with fear.

"Do you think I'll need help to handle them?" I linked with him telepathically.

He hesitated but eventually turned and ran. I watched him go, making sure he was safe before turning back to the bushes where the noise and scent of rogues emanated. Suddenly, five large wolves erupted from the underbrush.

"Ah, lucky number," my wolf said with a smirk, her anticipation evident.

The Royal Pack was notorious for their brutal treatment of rogues. It was clear they hadn't left their border unguarded by accident. The lack of guards or patrol suggested this was a test. Cameras were strategically placed—one hidden among the tree branches, another camouflaged between the leaves, and sensors disguised as poles.

"They're testing us," I explained. "See those cameras? Camera 1 is among the branches to your left, and Camera 2 is farther up. The pole is a sensor. They're watching every move. You told them you're Ethan's cousin, so if you fight too aggressively and finish too quickly, they'll become suspicious. We can't let them know our real intentions. Go for a balanced approach."

"This is going to hurt, Daeliah, and I need to control my healing. Don't make it too quick," I instructed her, bracing for the fight.

Before I could react, a rogue lunged at me. I let its claws rake across my arms before tossing it aside, not killing it immediately. As I dealt with it, two more rogues charged at me. I snapped the neck of one and broke the leg of the other. Turning to face the one who had clawed my back, I let it tackle me and punched its jaw, breaking its bones.

"Too much strength," my wolf commented, her voice tinged with approval.

I snapped the rogue's neck, using minimal force. I turned to the one with the broken leg, which was still unconscious from the pain. I stepped on it, pressing down until I crushed its rib cage and heart.

"Four down, one to go," my wolf said with a note of satisfaction.

I approached the final rogue, who was half-dead with a broken back. I grabbed its neck, digging my claws in and ripping out its throat.

"Perfectly done. Great show, D," my wolf cheered, her voice full of pride.

"They're here," I groaned internally, realizing it was all part of the Alpha King's plan.

"Royal bitches," my wolf muttered under her breath.

Covered in the rogues' blood and stinking of the aftermath, I surveyed my injuries. My back and arm were bleeding heavily, the pain a sharp reminder of the fight. The healing was slow, akin to that of a normal wolf.

A powerful gaze fell upon me. The Alpha King had arrived, his eyes piercing and intense.

"You're late," I said, rising to face him. His eyes, a striking shade of grey, seemed to shine with an almost hypnotic force.

I felt an overwhelming pull towards him, my emotions chaotic and uncontrollable. His presence was commanding, and before I could process the situation, a deep growl erupted from him.

"Mine."

The guards took a step back in reverence.

"Holly shit," my wolf exclaimed, retreating in fear.

My jaw dropped, and a wave of pain gripped me. His single word had shattered my plans and propelled me towards the forest. But as I tried to flee, his people blocked my path.

"What are you running from?" he demanded, his growl louder and more intense.

I faced him, unable to mask my fear. "You," I replied honestly, my voice steady despite the turmoil inside.

His eyes locked onto mine, a fierce determination in his gaze. "You're mine, and I'll have you in the end, no matter where you run."

His words echoed in my mind, a chilling promise as he stared deeply into my forest-green eyes.
