Davina's POV
I woke up to the warmth of strong, muscular arms wrapped around me. I didn't realize when I had fallen asleep. As I attempted to move, his grip tightened around me, holding me in place.
"Stay like this for a while. Please," he said in a calm, soothing tone. His plea was so earnest that I couldn't bring myself to argue. I stayed nestled against him, feeling a surprising sense of comfort.
Minutes ticked by as his arms slowly unwrapped from around me. For the first time, I felt a pang of disappointment and hesitation to leave the cocoon of warmth. But eventually, I forced myself to get up. The sun was about to rise, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink. I often wondered if, in another life, I might have found solace in painting the beauty that adorned the earth. Even now, that desire lingered within me.
I realized his jacket had been draped over me while I slept. As I removed it, the cold ocean breeze hit me with a sharp bite. I struggled to keep from shivering and tried to offer the jacket back to him.
He looked at me with a confused expression. His eyes were a striking grey, filled with a mixture of curiosity and concern.
"You'll freeze to death with the minimal clothing you have on," he said firmly, as he turned away and began walking.
"Let's go back home," he continued, not sparing me a glance.
I followed him in silence, not daring to speak. We walked through the forest until we entered what seemed like a small town—his pack territory. I could sense the strong presence of the pack around us.
As we passed a few people, they bowed their heads in respect, their gazes avoiding mine. I could feel their reverence for their alpha. After a while, he finally spoke again.
"I wanted to show you around since you're part of the pack too. That's why I took this route. I'm sorry if you felt uncomfortable."
"It's not a problem, Alpha," I replied, my eyes still on the ground. I was lost in my thoughts, going through my emails when I realized he had halted his steps. My head bumped into his back, and I stumbled backward.
"It's Alex for you. A.L.E.X," he said, irritation evident in his voice.
I tilted my head slightly, muttering under my breath, "Copycat."
"I can hear you, mate," he said, nodding as he resumed walking.
"Do you want to run?" he asked, his voice carrying a hint of excitement. In moments like these, he seemed less like an alpha and more like an eager child.
I shook my head, unwilling to reveal my wolf form to him. It would put me at a disadvantage if I needed to escape in the future. I felt a pang of guilt as I saw his disappointed reaction.
We finally arrived at his home. He walked in silently, and I followed after a moment, only to be surprised to find him behind the kitchen counter, wearing an apron.
"Sit. I'll cook you breakfast," he said with a casual confidence.
"I... uh... I haven't brushed yet," I stammered, taken aback by his unexpected domesticity. It was then that I really took in his appearance, and I was struck by his breathtaking beauty. His dark hair, though slightly tousled, framed his face in a way that accentuated his sharp features—high cheekbones, a strong jawline, and a perfectly sculpted nose. The way his disheveled hair fell over his forehead added a touch of effortless charm to his already striking visage.
He looked incredibly handsome. His eyes, a captivating shade of grey, seemed to hold the mysteries of the universe within them. They were intense yet gentle, revealing both strength and sensitivity. His broad shoulders and muscular build were covered only by the simple apron, making him appear both powerful and approachable. As he moved around the kitchen, the way he carried himself, with a mix of grace and confidence, made it clear that his presence was commanding and magnetic.
He smiled slightly at my flustered state. "You're blushing," he remarked. I felt my cheeks heat up, and I darted up the stairs, overwhelmed by his beauty and the sudden intimacy of the moment.
"I'll see you downstairs in ten minutes. Brush well. Breakfast will be ready by then," his voice called after me as I retreated to the room—his room. The realization hit me hard; I was surrounded by him everywhere—his room, his pack, his people, his house.
As I made my way to the bathroom, Ethan's voice stopped me in tracks .
"Whose jacket is that?" he asked, eyeing me curiously.
"His," I sighed, looking down at the jacket.
"You didn't sleep?" I asked, noticing it was only 7 AM and wondering why this little wolf was awake so early.
"You weren't here?" Ethan mumbled, turning to go back to sleep.
"You both converse with questions! None of you answers the other's questions," a voice chimed in from the gate. It wasn't Alex's voice. I turned to see Charlie, Alex's beta, leaning against the gate with a smirk.
"What are you doing here?" I whispered, not wanting to disturb Ethan.
Charlie shrugged and walked away. As I started towards the bathroom, I realized I had no clothes to wear since my suitcase had been destroyed by rogues. The only items in my bag were a knife, a gun, and a few other things—nothing suitable to wear. Thanks, Alex. I sighed, knowing my only option was to borrow something from him.
Alex's POV
I was waiting for Davina when Charlie barged in, reminding me of the meeting I had tomorrow about the land and resources dispute between two alpha packs. It was a pressing matter, and I felt it was best to handle it personally.
I didn't want to leave Davina behind, but taking her would be risky. I knew she wouldn't be comfortable in such a setting, and it wasn't the right environment for her.
Lost in my thoughts, I heard the sound of glass shattering. I turned around to see Timothy, my gamma, with his jaw dropped in shock.
"Are you serious? This was—" I began, but my words died in my throat when I saw Davina coming downstairs. She was wearing my shirt and shorts but the shorts were not visible as the shirt was long enough to cover her like a dress, making her look like a cute kitten in the oversized garment.
"I'm sorry. I didn't have any clothes, so I borrowed yours. I hope you don't mind," she said, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment as she avoided my gaze. I couldn't help but smile, appreciating this more vulnerable side of her, which was a stark contrast to the anger and forced smiles I had seen before.
"It's okay... I'm yours too," I said, placing the omelette on the table and gesturing for her to sit. Her cheeks turned a lovely shade of pink at my words. Before I could say more, I noticed Charlie and Timothy standing there, their eyes wide with surprise.
"Uhmm... Timothy, Davina is... uhmm..." I started to introduce her.
"She is his mate, meaning our Luna, meaning our queen," Charlie finished my sentence, walking towards the fridge and completely ignoring the shocked Timothy.
"Hi, I'm Davina," she said, extending a hand toward Timothy.
"Hello, Dav— I mean Luna. I'm Timothy. You can call me Tim too... You're beautiful— I mean, pretty. I'm sorry—" Timothy stuttered, flustering under my growl.
"I was gone for a day and you found your mate already? Aren't you moving too quickly?" Timothy asked, sounding incredulous.
"We'll be gone for a day too. Maybe you'll find yours then," Charlie teased, giving Timothy a smirk.
I looked up to meet Davina's eyes, feeling a pang of regret for not telling her about the meeting. I didn't want her to learn this way. For a fleeting moment, I saw a glimmer of sadness in her eyes, but it quickly vanished behind a blank expression. It was as if her emotions had been shut away, leaving me with a heavy sense of unease.
