Chapter 14

AN: This chapter is pretty much the same as the original show. I didn't add any big twists.

Izzy, Magnus and Lydia go to the main center. Me and Alec join them.

"Any word from the Clave?" Izzy asks.

"Not yet and we've been trying for the past four hours. Something's up." Lydia says.

"Hmm, the Clave being unhelpful? Who's shocked? Show of hands?" Magnus asks. And I raise my hand.

"I'm worried. I can't sense Jace through our parabatai bond." Alec says.

"I'm sure he's fine." I say.

"We'll find him, Alexander." Magnus says.

"When we arrested Hodge, he said Valentine was on a ship. They must still be over water." Izzy points out.

"Pull up the waterways around New York." Lydia commands.

"The ship couldn't have gone too far." Izzy says.

"Anything?" Alec asks Magnus, who is tracking him.

"Sorry." He says.

"I can only track by blood." I say.

"There's gotta be something!" Alec yells, frustrated.

"I don't see him." Magnus says.

"All right, listen up! I want 24/7 monitoring of the Hudson and the East Rivers. If you see anything unusual, you come to me first." Alec commands.

"I've got this, Alec." Lydia says.

"Then why haven't you found Jace yet?" He asks.

"Don't forget who you're talking to. I am still the head of this Institute." She says.

"And my brother is still missing!" He says, getting frustrated.

"Why don't you just take a break?" Izzy says.

"Not now, Izzy." He says.

"Isabelle's right, and it's not a request. You're dismissed." She demands.

"Fine!" He yells and starts to leave.

"Hey..." I start.

"Everybody, just back off!" He yells and storms off.

I find Alec up on the roof of the institute and walk up to him.

"I'm sorry for how I reacted before. It's not personal." He says.

"I get it. I know what you're going through, Alexander." I say.

"No, I... I don't think you do. Jace is a part of me. Through a rune, we are both physically and emotionally connected. If he dies, a part of me dies, too. And I know he's out there. And he's in trouble and there's not a damn thing I can do about it." He says.

"Tell me what I can do." I ask.

"Help me track Jace. I want to use our rune. I just need your help for the pain." He says.
