Chapter 21

I'm at the hotel, in the living room, when Izzy comes in.

"What are you doing here?" I ask her.

"Oh, just um I wanted to see you." She says.

"Okay." I say.

"And I wanted to ask you something." She says.

"Okay what did you want to ask?" I ask.

"Um do you have any yin fen? I'm on a case, trying to find out whose distributing it." She says.

"No I don't have any. It's very dangerous to use, you can get addicted to it easily. You haven't had any, right?" I say.

"No, of course I haven't had any. What? Do you think I'm lying to you?" She asks.

"I can tell you're lying. Your heart rate picked up." I say.

"Come on. Can't you help me? You're dating my brother." She says.

"No I can't. I'm trying to help you. Does Alec know?" I ask.

"No, he doesn't and you can't ever tell him. Please don't tell him, Desiree." She begs me.

"Fine. I wont tell him, if you stop taking yin fen." I agree.

"Okay. I'll stop." She promises.

"I gotta go back to the institute now." She says. Then she leaves.

Alec walks into my room. Why is everybody coming here today?

"My mother's back." He says.

"Which means I'll make myself scarce." I say.

"No, I have something else in mind." He says.

"Hmm."

"How would you feel about throwing a party?" He asks.

"Have you met me?" I ask.

"It is for Max's Rune Ceremony." He says.

"I think I'll pass." I say.

"Desiree..." He says.

"I'm sure I'll love Max. But Maryse? That woman hates me." I say.

"That's sort of the point of the party. So that she can see that this, us, it's not going away. And we can tell her about the baby." He says.

"Are you sure about this?" I ask.

"Why wouldn't I be?" He asks.

"Then I better get to work. I'll ask Magnus if he can help me and also if we can have it at his house because I don't think they want a party somewhere where there's hoards of vampires." I say.

I head over to Magnus house to ask him. I walk into his house and see him brewing something.

"Hey Magnus, how would you feel about hosting a party, and I can help you?" I ask.

"Sure. What's it for?" He asks.

"Um Alecs brother, Max's rune ceremony. Alecs mom will come too." I say.

"Oh no, no, no." He says shaking his head.

"Oh come on, please. Do it for me. I can't have it at the hotel and Alec wants to tell his mom the news then." I say.
