Galaxies (Alec Lightwood)

Chapter 32

We're in the institute and are looking at a holographic map of the city. Jace and Clary come to join me, Alec, and Izzy.

"Anything new? We tried tracking him together, like we did with Jonathan, but for some reason, it didn't work." Clary says.

"Magnus' wards are up. Valentine must still be in the city." Jace says.

"Thank the Angel for Magnus and the warlocks." Izzy says.

"Well, they didn't raise the wards for us." Alec says.

"Teams are out doing block-by-block sweeps throughout the city. We'll find him." She says. Then the alarm suddenly sounds.

"Aerial Sensors." Alec says. We all go over to another screen.

"Is it Valentine?" Clary asks.

"No. Could be some kind of Wraith demon." Izzy says.

"Let's get ready. Move out." Alec says. I grab my bow and start to head out with them.

"Wait you can't go. It's too dangerous." He says.

"Oh come on." I say.

"What if you go into labor when we're out there fighting." He says.

"I won't. I got a little time till they're born." I say.

"Please. Please let me go." I say pleading.

"No. I'm not letting you go." He says.

"I'll do that thing you like." I offer.

"Fine I guess you can go." He says.

We go to where the demons are flying over the city and are running through the streets. We stop at an intersection.

"Where is it?" Jace asks.

"It should be right on top of us." Alec says.

"Alec!" I yell.

We see the demon flying between buildings.

"I've never seen a demon like that." Izzy says.

"On your six!" Jace says.

Alec shoots an arrow but misses. I prepare to shoot one too.

"Desiree, you're not supposed to lift up your arms. I can shoot it." He tells me.

"Fine." I huff.

"Don't get mad at me, you're lucky I let you come with us." He says.

"And you're lucky I like you." I say.

"Can you see it?" Izzy asks.

Everyone circles around, looking at different streets. Waiting for the demon.

"What the hell is it waiting for?" Clary asks.

"It's coming around for another pass." Alec says.

"Alec!" Clary yells.

The demon comes flying right at us.

"Relax, I got this." Alec says and shoots it. The demon dissolves into different parts that splatter onto the ground.

"I could have gotten it." I say.

"Nice." Izzy says.

We all are taken off guard when the different parts suddenly come to life and turn into several little demons. A policeman gets out of his car.

"Hey, who threw something at my car?" He asks.

Alec sees a demon climbing up a building.

"Over there." He says.
