Desire...Oh Desire!
They say it's such a mortal sin.
But do you know what it really is?

In the darkness,
It's a sanguine light.

A dazzling blaze of undying flames,
Always glowing, fiery bright.

It's an unquenchable fire,
That stems from deep within.

A single flame that arose from the heart,
Is now barely contained within the skin.

This ever-increasing blaze,
Is nurtured so lovingly,
That pulsing and thrumming.
It slowly replaces your heartbeat.

This dancing spark is long sought,
For it brings a euphoric thrill.

But as it grows, fast and strong.
It seldom soothes your own craving.

This scheming inferno now,
Resides in your darkest part.

It chokes you with a sickly sweet smile,
And fills you with delirious want.

It makes you feel powerful,
And do things you'd never thought of,
It leaves you seeking for more,
And becomes a part of your unsated soul.

Sulfurous fumes now cloud your mind,
Burning, hissing, leaping at your thoughts.

Replenishing your identity,
Crippling your sanity.

These exploiting embers take,
Precious oxygen right before your breath.

Fuelling their own selfish needs,
Leaving you weary and fatigued.

It's an all consuming sea of flames,
Possessing golden liquid heat,
Raging like a thunderstorm,
And drowning you in its vast expanse.

As this gift of heavenly fire,
Gives way to hellish flames,
This Fire of Desire,
Takes you straight to your pyre.
