Strings of Regret

Chapter 5

As I was sitting in the back seat, staring at the incessant flash of trees and the sky from the ajar window of our car, and thinking about our summer vacation in Bohol, made me euphoric. It was one of the best moments of my life. Pagkatapos ng lahat nang pagod at stress sa school, we were able to chill and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Bohol without thinking about anything else except to relax and have fun.

Like the usual, around last week of April at May, nagbabakasyon kami and spend time with each other. Minsan lang 'to kaya we enjoy the moment while it lasts. We stayed in Bohol for 3-4 days and I must say it was worth it. Nag book kami sa isang inn at nagpahinga saglit dahil napagod kami sa byahe. After we took a short nap, pumunta kami sa chocolate hills at nagpicture picture doon. On our second day we went to check-in sa isang resort at gumala sa buong resort and nagswimming na din pagkatapos. Kumain rin kami nang mga patok na pagkain nila. We enjoyed our stay there and made memories together.

I smiled again. I looked back to what happened last April. We had a Recognition day and also Renan's graduation day. Sabay pa talaga 'yon. It was still clear how ecstatic I was when I attented Renan's ceremony. We were complete. Although I, most of the time, was the photographer of the whole ceremony I was still happy. We had a small celebration held at our house. My grandparents, aunts and uncles were invited as well as my cousins.

Pauwi na kami sa Cebu dahil mags-start na ang classes next week. Gr. 10 na pala ako. Akalain n'yo 'yon? Sabay kaming nagpa-enroll nina Sabrina at Cassi mga last week sa April. Hopefully classmates parin kami kung papalarin.

After an hour and a half, nakarating na rin kami sa bahay. Pagod kaming lahat kaya dumeritso kami sa taas at natulog. I woke up from the sound of my stomach churning, asking for food. I glanced at the wall clock and saw it was around 2 'o clock in the afternoon. I went down to eat lunch. Ang tahimik na dining table ang bumungad sa akin pagkababa. 'Maybe they're still asleep' sabi ko sa sarili. When I finished eating, I went back upstairs to get my clothes from my small luggage put it in the laundry basket. I took a shower and changed into a more comfortable clothes before laying down.

I picked up my phone when I heard it beep.

Reese:

Nakauwi na kayo, right?

Ako:

Yes.

Reese:

Can you look outside your window?

I raised a brow but did what I was told. Hinawi ko ang kurtina at tumingin sa labas. Bahagyang nanlaki ang aking mga mata nang mapagtanto na nandoon siya sa labas. Nasa tapat siya nang gate namin. Nakatingala siya sa'kin at kumaway. Si Reese nasa labas nang bahay namin! I mentally shouted. I typed a message to him, hindi parin umaalis sa pwesto.

Ako:

What are you doing here?

Reese:

Don't worry. Hindi rin ako magtatagal.

Ako:

You didn't answer my question.

Reese:

Ang tagal nating hindi nagkita.

Ako:

I know. Bakit ka nga nandito?

Reese:

I wanted to see you. Even just a glimpse of you.

I was unable to reply from his message. I just stood there looking at him. My heart started beating so fast and everything seemed blurry except for his smiling face. Oh right. It has been two months since we last saw each other but this should be normal I mean we are friends.
