A flicker of irritation, a stiffening of the body betrayed TJ's effort to contain his potentially explosive annoyance. He'd predicted that tutoring this breathing contradiction sitting across the table from him would be difficult, but nah, Harlem was impossible.
One hour and no headway.

TJ took in a silent breath and tried again, praying for stoicism. "If Mr A and Mr B takes a train from Lakewood to Hillgroove, and Mr B gets off at dash point, where does Mr A..."

"We ain't got no trains in these parts fam, don't know what you talking about." Harlem interrupted, scrolling through his phone nonchalantly, with his legs rudely crossed over the table.

TJ shot him a deadly glare, rapidly losing his patience. "Fine. If colin has two horses, and one of them is..."

"We ain't got those neither."

"If you're not going to take this seriously, I'm leaving. I'm not the one failing 'everything'." TJ's voice held a justified amount of contempt in it.

He crossed his hands over his chest and leaned back onto his chair, wondering how mad his papa would be at him if he jumped over this table right now and shoved his blade between this jackass's eyes repeatedly.

"Let's ditch and go do something, like grab some food or something, I'm starving." Harlem said, smiling.

TJ tilted his head sideways and stared at him, because it must be crack.

"Come on, I'm tryna get to know you,"

TJ chuckled dryly, then leaned close to Harlem in a manner that suggested he had something important to say. "You're repulsive, and I can't stand you." TJ told him calmly.

Harlem's jaw dropped dramatically in fake shock, as he grabbed his heart. "What's wrong with me? I'm lovable as a mutherfucker, you're tripping." He grinned, clearly enjoying his own antics, he then turned to a nerdy looking kid in a nearby table and asked, "You love me right?"

"Ye..yee...yeeess." The boy stammered, unsure of how he got dragged into this mess, because who wouldn't, he looked scared as shit too.

"Aight hop off my dick, you're doing a little too much now." Harlem barked at the kid, then turned back to TJ. "See? Lovable ash."

Unable to to spend one more second entertaining this neanderthal, TJ quietly got on his feet, packed up his shit and strolled out of the diner that they were in. Qani was picking him up, and he'd had enough of this bullshit for the day.
