Episode 14: Someone You Shouldn't Take Carelessly

To leave many orphans like that, then it must have been a huge dispute. Especially seeing how the old man reacted and Dazai's, it must be serious...

Maybe it's just a coincidence that it happened when I was gone, right?

I wonder what did the Special Ops do.

"Yuko..."

I raised my head to the side to see Odasaku standing. Dazai was still eating inside.

Are they finished talking?

"He's leaving soon, just finishing his curry." Odasaku continued like he read my mind.

"I see. Are you leaving too?" I said, also standing up.

He watched me for a while which made me a bit conscious.

There he goes again with his stoic face and an unreadable expression. Anyway, maybe it's okay for us to talk for a bit?

"Ne, I was surprised earlier when the old man told us you were taking care of the children upstairs. I thought they were your kids!" I shared as we both stood outside the shop, looking at the sea across the road.

"They're orphans, Yuko. Besides, I'm not married, how will I have kids?"

"Well, you know...you're an adult. Having a secret love child with a lover from the past is possible, Odasaku. Happens every time in the movies." I smiled cockily.

Odasaku faced me with a disgusted expression on his face. It was only for a split second but I definitely saw it.

"What kind of shit is that? Just what kind of movies are you watching?" He said.

I lost it after hearing him curse. I burst into laughter.

"Hahaha! I'm just kidding!"

But seriously, if they were indeed Odasaku's children, I would be horrified.

"Ease up a bit, Oda Sakunosuke-san. You're too tense, it's not like you." I smiled gently.

His air almost resembles Dazai's today, only lighter. They must be working really hard recently...even for Odasaku.

Odasaku then raised his eyebrows while watching me.

He scoffed.

"I could say the same. Don't push yourself too hard..."

"You have dark circles under your eyes." I can almost hear him smirk. (This is an expression)

Huh?!

"Tch! You always have a problem with my face. Am I that ugly?" I complained.

I don't really have a problem with my appearance nor care what people think since I hardly even put any effort into it. I do care about looking presentable at all times, though. But since then, hearing Odasaku always complain about my looks has made me conscious of my self.

I heard him chuckle which made me irked.

"Is that so?"

"No. Of course, you didn't!" I replied sarcastically after raising an eyebrow.

"You're never ugly, Yuko." He placed his hand on my head, patting it.

I looked at him surprised.

Was that a compliment?

"Are you saying I'm beautiful, then?" I smirked.

He stared at me blankly. He stopped patting and then suddenly flicked my forehead away.
