Chapter 28: An Angel's Guardian

Y/N POV

Just as Handsome Jack had ordered, I made my way to Thousand Cuts accompanied by my two Crimson Lance Royal Guards. I was curious as to see what Handsome Jack's new assignment would be.

Upon arriving at Thousand Cuts I instantly knew where I needed to be going, their was a large Hyperion facility a short distance away and at the top was a large structure which I assume was the Bunker Handsome Jack told me to head to.

However after killing several Bandits from a group called the Slabs, eventually reaching the facility I noticed my path blocked by a laser field which pretty much served as a death wall! Once I had approached Handsome Jack contacted me saying "Hold up, just let me disable the energy field for you."

As he said these words the field disappeared as we passed on through with him adding "As cool as it would be to watch someone get completely disintegrated by my little death wall, I can't risk losing one of my best and most loyal enforcers."

I made my way through and eventually I arrived at the Hyperion checkpoint areas half way up where I saw numerous Hyperion soldiers in their upgraded attire which seemed like a vast improvement from their original design.

These were accompanied with some Hyperion Combat Engineers who despite not even being proper military units, were also armed and armored to the teeth.

Now you may be wondering why the Hyperion soldiers were letting me and my Royal Guards right on through, well it was likely because Handsome Jack had informed them of our arrival prior to this situation.

With no distractions we went further up to the Bunker, we crossed a bridge as we entered a door and found ourselves at the Bunker, proper. Handsome Jack was waiting for us by a Fast Travel machine.

Upon noticing us he exclaimed "Oh good, you actually made it. I thought you'd given up and left." He looked up and noticed my guards before saying "Hey whoa, didn't I say to come alone?" I shook my head as he responded "Well I should have, they have to stay here ."

I turned to them and sighed "Well you heard him, go back to the Crimson Enclave and keep the place in order while I'm gone." They both saluted saying in unison "Yes sir!" Before heading over to the Fast Travel machine and disappearing.

I turned to Handsome Jack before asking "So, what did you have to show me sir?" He just responded by saying "Follow me, and what you see in here remains a secret or so help me you'll regret it!"

I nodded as I followed after him until we arrived at a door. The door did a scan of Handsome Jack and then we were asked for vocal recognition Handsome Jack simply uttered the phrase "I love you." Before the doors opened up to reveal an elevator.

We both got into it and descended until we arrived in a corridor, I continued to follow him as we arrived in some sort of room. Jack suddenly announced "Angel! Come out, there's someone I want you to meet."

Suddenly in a flash, I was surprised to see a girl before us, she was one of the prettiest girls I had seen in my entire lifetime. I also soon noticed that she was a Siren and wings sprouted from her back. It didn't take a genius to work out this was Angel, Handsome Jack's daughter.

Handsome Jack spoke up "Angel, I'd like you to meet Colonel Y/N Knoxx. He's one of my associates and from this point on he will be your personal bodyguard." We both looked at him surprised.

Angel asked "But don't I have enough protection from this 'safe' Bunker of yours?" You may not have been able to tell but the way she said that was laced in sarcasm and anger. Handsome Jack wasn't pleased as he pulled something out and pressed a button.

A collar around Angel's neck buzzed as he let out a pained cry and fell to the ground. I had to admit seeing this was the most sickening thing I had ever been forced to bare witness to, worse than the scientists in the Airlock, worse than his merciless killing of the Claptrap product line. This time I spoke up.

"Sir, stop it, your hurting her. Why are you even doing this?" Handsome Jack turned to me "It's for her own good. Now I have to go and oversee the progress on the Vault. I'll leave you two to get better acquainted with one another."

He walked out of the room as I turned back to Angel and surprisingly offered my hand out. However she slapped it away angered. "I don't need help from another of my father's lapdogs." I sighed again before holding my hand out again to her, she looked confused and asked "Why?"

I responded "Let me tell you something. Wilhelm aids your father because he's insane, Nisha aids your father because she's attracted to his brutality. I aid him because of a more personal reason."

Angel asked "What is that?" I explained to her "The Vault Hunters killed my father, my mother was killed by the Destroyer. Countless of my subordinates were killed by Bandits. I just want Pandora to be safe for people. And if your father's the best way to do that then I'm game."

She just looked at me for a moment before slowly taking my hand. And that was the start of our relationship which we kept secret from the world, not that we knew where it would go from there.

Author's Note: That concludes Chapter 28 now the relationship between Y/N and Angel won't be that important to the overarching plot of the story but it will affect Y/N's character later on. I'll try to get the next chapter up tomorrow. I really hope you enjoyed and as always thank you for reading.
