The clicking of heels reverberated against the tall walls of the long corridor as Kate followed Valo down a rather wide corridor. The clicking of their heels against the intricate tile patterns echoed throughout the hallway. The walls were painted in a deep mahogany that gave a darker tone to the sparely lit hallway, where lanterns hung lit in beautiful old lanterns. As much as he was curious about the man that led him he couldn’t keep his eyes focus on only the man before him because the architecture of the manor was somewhat foreign to this region and to him, especially all the doors, no one door in this long corridor was anything like the previous. They all had different styles, cravings, emblems, intricate details, even sizes and heights and such. This manor was beginning to stir up more of his concern for his well-being, but he did not yet know what was in store for him. Kate’s eyes abandoned the doors and instead set upon the man who seemed to hold some sort of disdain for him. “I don’t think you fancy me much, Valo.”

The man stopped abruptly, making Kate come to a halt as well, nearly crashing into their back. “And why would I ever fancy the likes of a hunter?” their words were hard and sharp as they threw daggers at Kate’s head.

He cleared his throat, having narrowly missed them by mere inches before clenching his jaw. He had been taken off guard at Valo’s response. The audacity of this person was enough to irk him. Kate tugged at his collar, suddenly it was too tight for him, he sighed. “I… well, I don’t know what happened in the past between hunters and Witches, but I had no part to play in acts of the ancestors of the village.” Valo shook their head. They gracefully turned to face Kate, their dead midnight black gaze cutting through the tension in the area that they stood. Valo came upon Kate as if time had given them every rightful second to their strides. Valo stood just about Kate’s height if not a few inches shorter but that did not seem to deter the Witch at all. For each step Valo advanced, Kate backed away. Their eye never moved from the man and then they stopped just shy of their noses touching, Kate’s back was to the wall, as he looked down at them. Valo had their head tilted up to meet his blue eyes.

“The past of this village is a history that you will learn of very soon, hunter.” Valo’s shorter figure was somehow more daunting than before. “I was given clear orders to keep you from harms way, but your very presence may be your own undoing.” Kate swallowed hard, his eyes glued to the dark gaze of Valo. They planted a hand next to Kate’s face before they spoke. “What you don’t know, will hurt you most of all, Kate. And trust me, you won’t like what you’ll figure out.” They lifted their hand from the wall but Kate caught it to their surprise and pulled Valo back in, their chest nearly touching as Kate lowered his head. His blue eyes hard.

“If the past is so damn important then why don’t you quit skirting around the issue and just tell me.” His words were like a wave crashing against borders as Valo’s pupil shrunk from hearing him come back at him so fearlessly. Kate’s lips moved and formed a smile having seen that he had indeed shocked Valo, making the Witch hum as they licked their lips.

“Why, Kate, haven’t you become that much stronger after such a trying ordeal.” They hummed to themselves. “Best to stop taking that tone with me or else I’ll steal you away for myself.” Valo smirked and pulled their wrist from Kate’s grip, rubbing at it. “You’re clearly stronger than I thought.” They said from over their shoulder. “Reminds me not to underestimate you, hunter. Anyways, do come along. Madame Waylynn’s office is right here.” Kate was not sure what to say to Valo after their near confession to him, but he definitely did feel something fizzle between them a second ago.
