You watched yourself in the mirror as you pulled on the dark dress Narcissa had brought you. It was long and beautiful, a gently swooping neckline and a plunging back. It was something you had never seen Narcissa in, you wondered on what occasion she would wear this. Maybe it was too much for her.
You felt odd dressing up, even if it was just a dress. Like you were preparing for a celebration or a party, when in all honestly that's not that this was for you. Not in the slightest.
Narcissa came for you when the sun fell, skimming your body as you stood before her. Your hair pulled into a gentle bun on your head. She looked as though she may smile at you, but didn't.
You walked down the stairs behind her, your shoes barely making noise on the flooring.
You lingered behind as Narcissa stopped you in the parlor.
"Stay, I will come for you in a moment" You couldn't help but wonder why they had sent Narcissa for you and not your father until you heard him.
"Y/n" your father called for you as he walked into the room, skimming over to make sure you were alone.
"Father?" you held your arms close to your body. He hadn't spoken so much as a word to you since you arrived, even going so far as to ignore you.
"Let's go." he grabbed for your arm, pulling you a little.
"Go where father what are you doing?" you pulled your arm away from him.
"I am taking you away before you get this mark, we will hide you. You will not become this" He was pulling you again, but you ripped your arm hard from his grasp.
Your father had been one of the Dark Lord's most devoted supporters since you could remember. Your childhood was set with hearing about the dark lord as if he was a martyr, maybe even a Godly figure, and now all of a sudden your father was wanting to run you away from becoming one of them? He had been keeping you away from all of this for so long, though you were never really sure why.
"No" you shook your head, the feeling in your gut was screaming for you to not listen, to go into that dining room and accept your fate.
It would be better anyway, than running. Even if you believed you could get away from all of this that would mean being alone. That would mean leaving behind everything you knew and in the long run, dying anyway. You were sure of it.
"Don't be a foolish child" he grits his teeth now, standing close to you.
"A fool would run" you backed away from him. Something was wrong, absolutely wrong. Before he could reach for you again you turned, walking to the door in the dining room. Pushing it open to a table filled with people, some people you recognized and some you didn't. Some you were shocked to see, people in the ministry, and even some you recognized as parents of fellow students.
"Ahhh Y/N" The Dark Lord seemed completely pleased. "See Alcide, she's not a coward like her mother" The Dark Lord spoke your father's name. He rounded around you then, barely glancing at you as he walked to an empty place at the table. You had never felt your heartbreak so quickly, shattering like blown glass in your chest. You knew you were right, you knew something was wrong. Your father had tried to trick you, to prove somehow to the Dark Lord that you weren't worthy. A test.
"I had to be sure, my Lord" he spoke taking his seat. You felt in that moment like throwing up, so this is what utter betrayal feels like. You only let yourself think of your mother for a moment, a coward he called her. As far as you had always been told your mother died in an accident years ago, what had really happened?
"Come child" The Dark Lord held his hand out to you.
You stood as tall as your spine could manage. Ignoring every eye that dug into your skin as you walked by. Including Narcissa, who unlike all the others looked affected by what had just happened, you let yourself believe maybe she didn't know. Anything to feel like someone believed in you.
