Fire

Merlin's afraid of fire. All because of the pyre.

Percival excused himself, and passed the manservant to use the bathroom.

Merlin stirred the pot furiously, kneeling next to the unlit fire, cooking the knights meal with only a couple herbs and a uncooked rabbit, caught during the day. The knights themselves where lounging around, waiting for their food, until the prat himself got an evil idea to get the manservant to hurry.

Arthur took out two small pieces of flint, and struck them on the campfire. Merlin jumped and cursed, causing the pot to go flying. The secret warlock scrambled back faster than the fire lit, breathing heavily. Arthur's smile faded when he saw the pure fear etched upon the boy's face.

Shaking, Merlin stood up and retrieved the pot while the knights howled in laughter.

"Um, there's still some stew." He said in a quiet voice.

Arthur walked over to the servant. "You all right?"

Merlin gave him a dark look. "I'm fine. Just startled."

Arthur accepted it, and went back to joking with the knights.

-----

"Hey let's play pass the flaming stick!" Gwaine said, clearly drunk.

Elyan stopped pushing the knights around, and smiled. "Sound's fun!"

Merlin grunted, unpacking camp, so the knights saw that as a yes.

They where wrong.

"CATCH!" Gwaine through a log, with a flame sputtering at the end, to Arthur, who tossed it quickly to Elyan, who threw it to Merlin.

He freaked.

Merlin's face became one of terror again, and he dodged, causing the stick to fall in the conveniently placed lake.

The knights scratched their heads as Merlin bumbled in terror. This was the second time he freaked.

----

"Hey Merlin, can you come with me?" asked Leon sullenly. The knights had drawn a bet, and Leon was the lucky guy that had to terrify their friend. He regretted his life choices.

Merlin nodded, and went to follow the knight, ignoring the guilty looks from his friends.

The knight walked fastly in front of the manservant, trying to light the stick without notifying Merlin.

the secret warlock cocked his head. "Is everything alright?"

Leon nodded, and took a deep breath, but didn't turn around yet.

Waiting for Merlin to get closer, Leon silently apologized. And silently prayed that he would never be part of the knight's games ever. Even now he could hear them creeping through the trees, wanting to see what was happening.

Merlin was 2 steps away.

Leon turned and shoved the torch near him, and Merlin gasped and jumped back. What hurt Leon the most was his face. Betrayal and fear was written clearly on the servant's face.

The knights bounded out of the trees, and Merlin backed away from them all. The fire burned on the pine straw littering the ground. "A good day to die, isn't it." He sneered. The knights stepped back, and turned to Leon. Leon raised his hands.

Merlin scrambled away from the growing fire. "Should have figured it out. You've been trying to burn me all day now." Arthur opened his mouth to speak, but Merlin cut over him.

"I would prefer a notice." Merlin said solemnly, all his anger gone. "I would like some time to prepare for the pyre. Guess it's to late now."

Arthur finally got a word in. "Merlin we're not burning you! Why would you think that!"

Merlin blinked, then frowned. "Your just teasing me?"

All the knights sighed in relief, and nodded.

Merlin, however, paled. "You... you know. Didn't even think about it until know. Part of me is glad that you accept me!" The knights looked at each at other, as if to say; Huh? "But another part of me is mad. I mean, teasing me with the one thing that has thousands of my kind away, well, that's kinda evil." Merlin glared at the knights.

Arthur blinked. "Your kind?"

Merlin stared at the knights. "Oh shoot you didn't know."

Suddenly Percival walked through the trees. "What'd I miss?" He asked.
