Shit! Chan called me?!

How did he even get my number?

Panicking, I blurt out the first excuse that comes to mind.

Jeongin: Sorry, wrong number.

I'm about to hang up when I hear Chan's desperate voice.

Chan: Wait! Jeongin, I know it's you. You don't have to say anything, just listen, please.

I hesitate, thinking whether I should hang up or not.

I decide on listening to what he has to say just in case.

Chan: I- I'm sorry Jeongin. I was a jerk, a really big jerk.

Just hearing those words makes me tear up.

Chan: I didn't know how much pain you went through until I went through the same pain. I realized how much of a dick move that was, but I was way too late.

There's a pause, but he continues.

Chan: But I realized that even though the other bets lasted only a week or two, you lasted an entire year. That was because deep down, I... loved you. And I still do.

This time there's a longer pause, so I use that chance to escape.

Jeongin: I'm sorry, you called the wrong number.

I quickly hang up before he has the chance to say anything else.

Needing someone to vent to, I text Seungmin to come over.

In about 5 minutes, I hear the doorbell ring.

I walk downstairs and open the door to see a sweaty and out of breath Seungmin.

Seungmin: I... came as fast... as I could... what... happened?

He says between breaths.

Jeongin: I- well... Chan called me.

Seungmin: What?!

Jeongin: Yeah, he said he realized how much of a jerk he was because someone did the same to him.

Seungmin: Wait, hold up. The Bang Chan got played?

Jeongin: Yeah, I was shocked too. And he apologized too.

Seungmin: Dang, can this get any weirder?

Jeongin: Actually, it can. He...

My eyes tear up as I say this.

Jeongin: He says he loved me. And he said he still does.

My voice comes out as barely a whisper.

Seungmin: He did? How did you react?

Jeongin: I told him he called the wrong number and hung up. I know I'm dumb, but I just panicked, and I-

Seungmin: You did the right thing.

Jeongin: What? I did?

Seungmin: Yeah. For all we know, he could just be trying to play again. He did it once, and he can do it again.

Jeongin: But what if-

Seungmin: No. What if he just wants your body like last time? Are you gonna let him fool you twice?

Jeongin: No...

Seungmin: Say it louder.

Jeongin: NO! I WON'T LET HIM PLAY WITH MY FEELINGS AGAIN!

Seungmin: That's right, you keep that attitude.

I smile to myself, failing to notice the smirk on my best friend's face.
