-1 Year Later-
Today is the day Conny gets shipped out. Unlike the shipments from 2 years ago, I now know that this is the last time I'll ever see her. Since, she'll be sent off to be killed and eaten.
Just the thought...it makes me feel really sad. How can Ray deal with this pain every single time? Then again, I've survived a year of this hell. But the pain strikes even harder every single time.
Ray notes my depressing demeanor and wraps his arms around me.
"Hey are you alright? You look a little...gloomy? Is it about Conny?" He asks, resting his head on my shoulder.
"Yeah...it's just sad to think that she'll be killed. Especially when we can't stop her from going."
"Mm..yeah that's the hard part." Ray says, deciding to rest his head on my lap.
I play with his long, black hair out of habit. Twisting it and braiding it, then letting it fall back down onto his head.
I feel the butterflies float around in my stomach, and it's no mystery why. Ever since that day last year, when he told me about the truth. Ever since that moment when he was honest with his emotions. Ever since that moment, he pulled me close, and whispered those words into my ear.
Whenever he's so close to me, I feel those butterflies. Whenever he crosses my mind, I feel those butterflies. Whenever I think about the time he told me he would tell me his wish for the future, I feel those butterflies.
"Hey Chouchou, we should go prepare the items for later." Ray says, lifting his head from my lap.
"Chouchou? What's with the nickname?" I chuckle, taking Ray's hand as he helps me up.
"It means butterfly...in Japanese. I know you love butterflies, so it seemed to fit you." He mumbled, covering his face with his free hand to hide the red tint on his face.
"Oh really?! I didn't know that! Well you learn something new everyday!"
Ray's blush only gets worse, as he turns around and begins to walk to the house.
I follow, not far behind him, since he hasn't let go of my hand.
He leads me to the boy's room, and, at long last, releases my hand from his grip.
"You can sit on the bed, I'm gonna explain the plan one more time." Ray says, placing a few items next to me on the bed.
"Wait Ray isn't that..?"
"Little Bunny? Yeah, it is. This is how we'll lure Emma and Norman to the gate."
We went over the plan one last time, before we had to set it into motion.
The bell for dinner had rung, and Ray put the Little Bunny replica underneath the table, next to my feet.
I sit across from him, so it's easy for him to slide something to my feet from beneath the table.
Throughout dinner, I kept looking at Conny, and at how happy she is. I can't believe it's her last night. As in, very last.
Ray takes note of this, yet again, and taps my foot from his side of the table with his own.
"You feeling okay? I'll take you to the bathroom." He then rises from his place and tells Mama that he's taking me to the bathroom.
I follow after him.
"I can't...sit at the table. Every bite is making me feel sick." I finally confess.
Ray sighs, then speaks.
"Is it because of Conny?"
"No, I don't think so. Maybe I'm just nervous." I reply, messing with my skirt.
We take a seat on the floor, and bathe in a comfortable silence. We stay like this, until Phil comes by to tell us that Conny is about to leave.
