For the third time that morning Nick once again reaches Peeps voicemail. She had totally forgotten to call him the day before when the chaos of Jay being shot.

"Hey boo. I'm so sorry I'm not going to make it out today. Jay got shot yesterday, he's in the hospital. I'll come out to London soon. I love you. Be amazing" she leaves a voicemail, he will call her back and understand.

Jay hasn't woken up since surgery yesterday, it went on for hours. Hank sat with her right up until Jay came back, then the doctors didn't have the heart to move her. Nick slept in the uncomfortable chair for hours, just for a hint that he's ok. A million thoughts race through her mind as she watches him sleep, what if he never wakes up? What if can't walk? What if there's other problems? With his arms or hands? The worst possible situations flash through her brain.

Looking at him sleeping in the bed, something stirs inside of her. She desperately wants him to be ok, Nick wants nothing more than Jay to get back to normal again and for him to be happy and healthy. But she doesn't know if she wants Jay. Watching him sleep, she should feel nothing but fear, worry and love but the only feelings are fear, worry and guilt. Nick loves Jay, he is the most amazing guy but she's not in love him. Her heart will always belong to someone else, it will always belong to Tom.

"Nick?" Jay hoarse voice speaks from the bed. Her head shoots up, look at the direction where the sound came from.

"Hey baby" she smiles. Grabbing his hand kissing it.

"What happened?" He asks as she helps him drink water.

"You got shot. But it's ok they took the bullets out in surgery" Nick kisses his forehead, holding him tight "it's going to be ok" she fights back the tears. Comforting him but more trying to convince herself more than anything. Her phone vibrates in her pocket, sending it straight to voicemail. "Sorry I'm here for you" Nick sits back down, dragging the chair as close to the bed as possible.

"Did you sleep here?" He asks her noticing the blanket on the chair, Nick nods "is Maggie ok?" He asks.

"Yeah don't worry, Hank took him last night" she caresses his face. Her phone vibrates again but once more Nick sends it straight to voicemail "how you feeling?" She asks adjusting his bandage.

"Sore" he smiles, struggling to speak after being asleep for so long "you stayed" he cups her face smiling.

"I stayed" Nick smiles back, holding his other hand.

"What did you do?" He asks. Nick looks shocked "you did that thing. With your lip bar. You push it up and down when you've done something"

"Right we spend way too much time together" She jokes with him, making him laugh "I may have yelled at Hailey and maybe kicked her out of the hospital" Nick looks around the room not making eye contact.

"Right people are way too scared of you. You're only 5'4" they both laugh "why babe?"

"Well. I have a valid reason. You said that she wasn't there and I assumed that it was Hailey" with his free hand Jay grabs the back of her head pulling Nick closer to his face laughing. "So if you think about it. You're to blame?" She laughs

"Oh really?" Their faces only centimetres away from each other, Nick nods still smiling "well must true then" they both laugh, their tongues touching as Jay pulls her in closer to kiss. Their moment quickly interrupted by Hank walking in.

"Wow you two. People are sick here" he laughs to himself, Nick takes a seat on the bed, finally getting a cuddle. Her phone vibrates once more but again she sends it to voicemail. "Glad to see you're ok mate"

"Thanks, and Urm I'm sorry for Nicks behaviour yesterday" He jokes as Nick looks away pretending not to hear the conversation. But he elbows her.

"I'm sorry. I may have overreacted" she looks at Hank who already knew this as her phone vibrates again "I'm sorry hunny" Nick picks her phone up and listens to the voicemails.

3 x voicemails

"Hey it's me. I know we've not spoken in a long time but I'm sorry how I left things. I know you're happy now and I want you to know that I love you and because I love you I'm letting you go" a voicemail from Tom. 9:21pm

Nick jumps off the bed.

"Urm I just have to make a call" Nick quickly exits the room to listen to the other voice mail.

"Hey so it's me again. I lied. I'm not letting you go. I think we are meant to be, you fucked up. I've fucked up. But we are meant to be together. I love you and I'm going to fight for you" a drunk voicemail from Tom. 3:30am

Nick calls him back.

"The number you've called is no longer in service" the automated voice speaks back to her.

"Hey I know I'm the last person you want to speak to but I thought you deserved to know. I saw Tom last night at Les Deux with Jade. I miss you, call me" A voicemail from Layla 11:29 am

Her heart sinks. The next possible outcomes race through her mind, what could possibly happen next.

"Everything ok?" Jay asks as she walks back into the room.

Nick looks at him, she could lie and say yeah. Sit down and for the rest of her life being happy with a good man. Who will look after her and love her forever. But is that a life to live? Just being happy and just being loved? Not ever loving them back, Jay deserves someone who loves him fully and unconditionally. Nick deserves to be loved by someone who she loves unconditionally.

"Urm there's some issues with the sale of my house back in LA. I'm really sorry. I'm going to have to dip for a couple days. Just to get it sorted" Nick kisses Jay on the head.

"Ok babe" he smiles.

"You gonna be ok?" She asks, always feeling so guilty that she's lying.

"Yeah go baby. I'll be here when you get back" they kiss.

"Ok my love" they kiss one more "will you be ok with Maggie?" She looks at Hank who just nods.

On the way back to the house, Nick starts feeling physically sick. That's the first time she's ever lied to Jay and now is starting to regret it.
