"Jay?" Nick calls out as she enters his house for the last time "Jay?" She shouts one more time as Maggie comes running up to her "oh hey baby. I've missed you" she kneels down and kisses him "I love you babyboy" Nick kisses him again. Then Jay comes walking in from the garden, wiping his hands on a rag. "Hey" Nick stands up putting her key down on the table.

"You alright?" He says coldly towards her.

"Urm yeah" she scratches her head "so we need to talk"

"Yeah we do" Jay throws the rag on the coffee table, the pair stand facing each other "I went to LA"

"What?" Nick asks confused

"Yeah the hospital called me to say you'd come in on an expected overdose. I saw him, by your bed, he's the one isn't he? The one you hurt?" Nick nods "yeah so I saw him. Nick why did you lie?" Jay looks extremely disappointed.

"I just" she chokes up on her own tears "he had called me saying loved me and I needed to know" tears stream down her face "I needed to know that this" she points between the two of them " that this, this was what I thought it was and I wasn't just running. It sounds horrible I know and I'm so sorry Jay" Nick moves towards him but he steps back as Maggie sits patiently at her feet "but when I saw him at a club with playmates, then with a new girl. I took the easy way out. Drugs were always my way out of things, at the time I was thinking straight, I thought once you found out why" Nick starts to cry again "once you found out why I went to LA, then for sure you'd want nothing to do with me" Nick wipes away her tears.

"So you took the easy way out?" Jay ask bitterly. Nick nods "that was not your decision Nick!" He shouts "This is an adult relationship if you didn't know, you should of let me decide what was our future!" He shouts again

"I'm sorry Jay" she speaks.

"So you've made the decision then?" He asks.

"Yeah I have. I'm really sorry" she cries.

"Right" he holds the tears back "well your stuff is in your cases. Mags stuff is there as well" Nick kneels down picking up Maggie's lead.

"Thank you. I am really sorry Jay. I did love you." She corrects herself "I do love you, I just need can't do this right now" she cries.

"You once told me that when you're high you say nasty shit, that you're a horrible person" She nods again "well you're wrong. You're a fucking horrible person sober" he barges past her and out of the house.

Nick falls to the ground crying, she never intended to hurt him like this. Jay was supposed to be her forever man, her new life but life had other plans. Moving through to the bedroom, her cases stand in the corner, look like they've been packed for days. She loads up her car, Maggie rests on the backseat, so happy to have his mummy back. Before leaving Chicago for good, Nick decides to say goodbye to Hank. Fixing her makeup in her centre mirror before hoping out of her truck, Maggie happily follows her through the station. Trudy looks unimpressed as she walks past, head hung in shame. Walking through the department everyone stares at her, she can hear the whispering, feel the burning eyes on her skin but Nick swallows her pride and bites her tongue before gently knocking on Hank's door.

"Come in" he says quietly behind it. Nick slowly opens the doors leaning against the frame "ah you're alive" Nick smiles weakly "oh stop it. Self pity was never an attractive look on you" walking in she kicks the door the shut as Maggie goes bounding round the table to get to Hank.

"Soo I'm guessing everyone knows?" Nick takes a seat by his desk.

"That you ran off to LA and OD'd? Yeah everyone knows" Hank says, angry with her but more concerned for his only family. Nick purses her lips "what the hell are you doing with your life?! Do you think your father would of wanted this for you?" He slams down the case file he was reading. "For god sake Nicoletta. Get your fucking life together. So what now? You go back to LA, to the same environment that broke you. To do what? To heal? To be the with the guy you ran from?" She doesn't say anything, feel like being told off "you cannot heal in the same environment that broke you"

"Ok maybe I am making a huge mistake. But I'll never forgive myself for not taking this risk. Please I'm not asking you to understand or even agree with what I'm doing. I just need to know I have at least one family member on my side" Nick begs her uncle.

"Ok, you know I've always got your back if you're honest with me Nick" he gets up from behind his desk, hugging her tight "I love you Nicki" he kisses the top of her head, like he used to when she was little.

"I love you to Hank" She tries to hold back the tears. Pulling her jeans up by the belt loop she takes a step back. "Right I've gotta do that painful drive now" she laughs through the pain of leaving.

"Call me at every stop and when you're back in LA" he kisses her head once more before seeing them out of the office.

Jay just sits and patiently watches from his desk, the anger so close to boiling up and over the surface. She doesn't blame him. Nick would hate him to if he'd done the same. The drive home seems to take twice as long as when she first went out there. Her best friend is moving half way across the world, back to her homeland. The man she thought was going to be her husband is now a distant stranger. And the distant stranger Nick thought she would never see again, is now, once more her everything.

Eventually they pull up to her house, the drive is finally over. They will never have to do it again. Layla has been round, unpacking her things, the family didn't want Nick coming back to a house of boxes, they wanted her coming back to her home. Maggie goes bounding around the house, so happy to be back in familiar surroundings again. As Nick moves through the house to unpack her things she spots something to make her smile, Tom's watch box in back on the dresser and the picture of his mom is on the bedside table. The closest in the spare room is full of his clothes and finally his toothbrush is back in the bathroom. Her heart is full, admiring the room around her Nick is happy but her happiness is dampened thinking of Jay in Chicago. She shouldn't get to be this happy but she is.

After eventually unpacking, Nick changes into something more comfortable. Booty shorts and slash neck Peep shirt. She starts cooking dinner as Maggie lays out in the summer heat when Nick hears a key in the front door turning. Looking over her left shoulder Nick smiles as Tom and Willow enter the house.

"Hey baby" she says casually getting back to the past bubbling away.

"Hey darling" Tom grabs a water from the fridge and takes a seat at the breakfast bar. "I moved back in" he says casually.

"I noticed" Nick laughs to herself.

"I missed you so much that I cuddled Willow the last few nights instead of you" he laughs sipping his water.

She threw him a half smile as she stirred the pasta sauce boiling away on the stove. Her LA sun bleached beach waves flow down her back, just touching the top of her bum. Even though it's middle of the summer in LA she has still got on the fluffy socks his mum got her the first time they visited her. Her tan radiates in the sun light shining through the big patio doors. Throwing her head back laughing

"Your an idiot" she laughs, her way of telling him she's loves him.

He can't do anything else but laugh with her, completely mesmerised by her presence. Who would of thought that one delayed train could change his whole future.
