Chapter 49 | The unfortunate event: part 1

A week passed by, and the troupe and I were flying down to this town. We met up with Nobunaga and Machi there.

"Machi, you and Nobunaga are always together.. You sure you're not a couple?" I teased her. Her face turned bright red, looking away.

"No way!" she said, folding her arms.

"This way," Nobunaga said. We followed him to this beaten down building. It looked old, but not as old as our secret base back in Yorknew city. We entered, and I saw the 4 I met before. I glanced at Feitan who whispered something to Maiko, "Remember, how I taught you at home." Maiko nodded her head. 

'I don't know what training they did, but I hope it was efficient. I can't help Maiko since she's a Transmuter like Feitan..'

I looked at the scene before us. Gon and Killua were fighting some.. SPIDERS? I looked around me to count how many were with us right now.

"Y/n, that's his power.. He can create puppets.." Shalnark whispered to me. Nobunaga saw a copy of himself, and quickly went up and sliced his copy to pieces. Phinks and Franklin attacked their own copies as well. I look over to the side and saw a copy of Maiko.

"Wtf?" I said. I used my blades on her copy, making her explode. I glanced to the corner of my view, seeing half the spiders looking dumbfounded. "Oops," I said, realizing. "Damnit!" I heard someone said. I look over seeing the Leorio person fighting my copy.

"Shit!" I said. Before I could go that way, Feitan and Maiko defended, killing my copy in an instant. "Jeez, Feitan... I hope you didn't torture the kid to be able to do that," Franklin said, putting his large hand on Maiko's head.

Once we killed the fake spiders, we all went back to the middle, seeing the chain user, with his friends. "Y/n.. the real spiders!" Kurapika said. He almost passed out. "You've used too much of your nen," Leorio said, assisting him.

I was going to walk towards them when Franklin stopped me. "It would be pointless to kill him now.. His nen would easily come back for revenge.." Shalnark said. I made a 'tch' noise, and faced the others.

"Is that a little kid?" Killua said, staring straight at Maiko. Maiko innocently skipped towards the others. "Maik-" I was interrupted. "It's fine, we wouldn't hurt an innocent little kid.." Gon said. He bent down to Maiko's level and patted her head.

"Oh, my.. What are you doing around a dangerous place like this, and with those nasty people?" Kurapika said, also looking at Maiko.

"Who's fucking idea was it to bring this kid?" Feitan said, crossing his arms. I jabbed his side a little, making him lose his balance. "Stop being mean to her, that's our kid you're talking about!" I said, semi-yelling. It echoed throughout the entire building. Without a doubt, everyone in there heard what I said.

"Your mother is y/n?" Gon asked her. Maiko nodded her head.

"So, Feitan.. what again is Maiko's nen ability..?" I asked him. "Not telling," he smirked under his mask. I looked back at Kurapika, who's eyes were a deep scarlet color.

"Maiko, come back." I said to her. She was about to quickly run back when the others stopped her. Kurapika had an arm on her shoulder, not allowing her to leave. I was about to run towards her, but the troupe stopped me.

'What the HELL is happening??' I said in my thoughts as my heart raced. I looked over at Feitan who seemed like he wasn't too happy either.

"Mommy?" Maiko asked looking at me. I looked down at the ground, thoughts in my mind. What the hell, why wouldn't they let me save my own child?

"Stay with us.. We can treat you so much better.. You wouldn't have to worry about killing or such. The 4 of us will protect you so much better than anyone ever would." Kurapika tried to brainwash the poor child.

'I get it.. we're a band of thieves.. Maiko was born in the troupe, though.. She's special to us.. To Feitan.. to me.. She's my daughter..'

"But what about mommy..?" Maiko asked. Her hands fell down, tears forming on her little face. Seeing those genuine tears made me tear up also. "Your mommy isn't a good person.. You shouldn't be with them, trust me." Kurapika said.

"Maiko, don't listen to him," I said, stepping a few feet forwards. I felt a pain wrap around my arms legs and shoulder. "Y/N, USE GYO!" Machi yelled out to me. I looked around my entire body, wrapped in chains.

I had no reaction to what was happening to me. I was only worried about Maiko, and Maiko alone. "Leave Maiko alone.. do whatever to me.. but please, leave Maiko alone."

"Is mommy okay..?" Maiko asked. She stepped back from the others. Killua and Gon stepped back besides her to protect her, in case anything were to happen.
