Let me know if the chapters are too long!! I'm doing my best to move quickly as I want to get to Bucky, but if you would prefer I slowed down I'm happy to do that x

DANIELLE WATCHES Fury's lifeless body silently, Natasha Romanoff placing a hand on his head. She blinks, her own eyes glazing over. It confuses her if she's honest. She barely knew the man. Yet, he was one of the very few she did know, he had given her a chance, more than she ever deserved.

She should have saved him.

"I need to take him."

She glances up, the woman she had heard of as Maria Hill stands at the door, her expression filled with sympathy as she stares at Natasha. Danielle takes a breath, clearing her throat as she moves past her into the hallway, taking her hair off of her bruised face through her fingers.

She doesn't glance back when the door swings open and Steve and Natasha share a few heated words. Her heart still drums anxiously in her chest from her attack. She could be in a cell right now, HYDRA wanted her - wants her. The soldier could have killed her. But he didn't.

They want her alive.

They want her to kill again.

"You should let someone take a look at that," Steve suggests quietly, coming to stand behind her, following her gaze through the window.

She spares him a quick glance, running her tongue over her dry lips. "It's fine, it's just a bruise."

"Or a fracture," he mentions pointedly.

She shakes her throbbing head. He is probably right, but she doesn't think she can sit still long enough for someone to check her. "It's fine," she repeats, softer this time.

Steve leans onto the railing in front of him, elbows locked as he dips his head. "Why did Fury think you were in danger?" He asks, his voice barely above a whisper.

Her eyelashes flutter as she blinks a few times slowly. She doesn't know how long she can keep him in the dark. She tilts her head. "I don't know," she sighs, her brows raising slightly.

"I think you do." Her eyes narrow fractionally as she meets his hard gaze. "People have gotten into a habit of not telling me things. I'd appreciate to be enlightened," he finishes.

She runs her tongue over the front of her teeth. She understands his frustration. He didn't deserve to be kept in the dark. She raises her head slightly, rolling her shoulders back. "Fury knows a lot of things. Fury keeps a lot of secrets. He knows everything about all of us, why wouldn't he know I was in danger?"
