Nandini(without looking at him)- why are you here Manik?

The fact that she still could feel his presence made him smile.

Manik- to spend time with my wife

Nandini- I think you mean ex-wife, just to remind you, we are divorced. You are my daughter's father but not my husband. In fact, you are getting engaged to Meera.

Manik- but you are and will always be my shining star, my angel.

Nandini turned her face away. Manik sat on the swing beside her and held her hand, intertwining their fingers.

Manik(looking at their hands)- your hand fits mine perfectly!

Nandini- Manik just

Manik(cuts her)- don't ruin it, I promise I will not say a word. Just let me be here, beside you, holding your hand.

The intensity with which he said those words was enough to make Nandini feel tingles running down her spine. She freed her hand and stood up from the swing.

Manik(looking at the sky)- things have changed, but the stars are the same. They will be the same always, forever. Do you remember, we used to do a star gazing session once in every week? Just like this, sitting in silence, leaning on each other and looking at the beautiful sky.

Manik too stood up from the swing and came to stand right behind Nandini. She turned to face him.

Nandini- you seem to have a habit of breaking promises Mr. Malhotra.

Manik- huhh

Nandini- you promised to not say anything and just sit but..

Manik- I am sorry

Nandini- sorry for what Manik?

Manik- sorry for breaking the promise of staying silent

Nandini- and

Manik- sorry for breaking my promise that day

Nandini(sobbing)- and

Manik- sorry for being such an idiot, sorry for not trusting you, sorry for hurting you so badly, sorry for breaking your heart, sorry for snatching your faith away from the word forever, sorry for my every word that made you cry, sorry for divorcing you, sorry for ending the most beautiful relation of my life in the ugliest way

Nandini had turned into a crying mess till then and tears could be seen falling from Manik's eyes as well. Both of them were crying but none of them knew what to say. Manik held her hand and turned her face towards him. Cupping her face, he said,

Manik- I know that I am a monster but what can I do as this monster needs his angel to tame him, I am a beast who needs his beauty to make this beast a human, I am a devil who yearns for the love of his angel. Please forgive me Nandini.

Nandini kept staring at him blankly. Slowly, Manik's hands which were cupping her cheeks started to slip and fell on his lap. 

Manik- god did not hear your prayer.

Manik murmured and Nandini shot him a confused look.

Manik- before leaving you had prayed to god to lessen my pain when I realise the mess my anger had created, but your Aiyappa did not listen, he gave me excruciating pain because I had made his Nandini cry. I died every night when I realised that you will not be there snuggling in my neck and giggling in my arms when I will open my eyes the next morning. I know that it might be to late but I am sorr
