Everyone was stepping into the elevator to get ready for the next challenge, since David has gotten through the first one. They all have been asking me why I'd given him a nine instead of the usual score I would give to the previous newbies. And the answer was the same, "Because David impressed me enough to deserve a score of nine."
Most of them weren't fully buying it, like Jaxon, Harper and Josephine, unlike everyone else who agrees with me. David really brought his A game to the table, any person who doesn't know one thing about dancing should be able to see that.
Speaking of David, I saw him standing in front of the wall that's covered with picture frames of some of the dancers from our crew who has become greatly successful over the years. Some of them gets paid to perform for movies, music videos, fashion shows, the Super Ball and concerts like Beyoncé, Britney Spears, Chris Brown, Ne-Yo and many other artists.
Some even have their own studio where they choreograph new dances and teach them to others while posting videos on YouTube. We would visit their studios as a group to support them without anyone knowing who we are and if there's enough time, we would go grab a bite to eat and hung out.
As I was walking towards him, I notice that he was wearing the black and blue bandana around his wrist that he must have gotten it from Steve earlier. Whenever a newbie gets through the first challenge, they are given a black and blue bandana to wear for the next challenge.
David has to wear it throughout the challenge and shouldn't take it off or hide it under his clothes for whatever reason. When I stood next to him, I gently hit his elbow with mine after letting him stare at the wall for a few more minutes, "Feeling alright, Dave?"
Snapping out of his thought before giving me a short nod, then turned back to the wall, "This is a nice 'Wall of Fame' that your crew got going on here."
"Wall of Greatest." I corrected him, smiling as I took a moment to look at some of the faces of people who I've looked up to during the years. I still do, they're always available to give advice on any dance moves for a choreography every now and then. "Every single person on this wall is known as a great dancer that our crew has ever had. We honour their time being part of this crew by putting their picture on this wall, never to be forgotten."
"I see Jayce's picture is up here too." David pointed out; the picture of him was taken the Wednesday before his eighteenth birthday. He was a Spanish and Scottish guy with brown eyes and hazel brown hair, same height as Ryan and well-built with a lean body.
Sometimes looking at his photo, I still can't believe that he's gone, it feels like he went to Scotland to visit his grandparents and cousins, so we would only see him the next two weeks. But deep down I knew that he isn't. "Dreamer." That stage name was made for him in every way.
"We all thought that he deserved his own spot on the wall more than anyone else." Saying that almost sounded like I was talking mostly to myself than David, as if it was meant to be a secret. It's a bit crazy how it can be so many years since Jayce's pasting, yet the scars are still in healing. And being able to say those words about him without choking on a sob or tearing up is a great success for me personally.
Until David lightly tapped on the picture next to Jayce's and spoke in a tone of extreme surprise and misbelief, "I never thought that Carter was part of the crew."
A sad smile grew on my face as I stared at my close friend's picture. The struggle of getting him to take one single picture of himself without dragging me, Jaxon or anyone else in the room to stand next to him was something out of this world. Normally the guy is obsessed of taking pictures of himself every single day, but the one day that he's asked to take one and he's suddenly afraid of the camera.
