The days of the tournament were moving past faster than what I'd expected. Having played and won a couple of games, we were just four teams left heading into the semifinals.
The dining hall seemed nearly empty from how many teams have left. However, there were three three teams who stayed behind to watch the rest of us enter the semifinals and finals.
I was sitting with my team, who were excited and anxious about the semifinals, "Do you guys think we'll make it for the finals?"
Logan asked the table, and the question was mostly answered with the nervous atmosphere. Until Ryan broke the ice, "We have made it this far, Logan. If we can get into the semifinals of the tournament, then we can definitely get to the finals."
"Yeah, but," Timmy nodded in agreement, yet he sounded like he needed more encouragement. The whole team looked like they needed it, "What if we slip up and not make it to the finals."
The question hangs heavily above the table. This is a question that's a silent fear that the team doesn't want to admit out loud and in public. Afraid to have unwanted ears listening in and causing the worst become reality.
"Listen, guys," David's voice called for attention. Staring at every face at the table as he spoke, "This is the nerve-wracking part of semifinals. Two teams played each other on two separate times. And the one who wins will be in the finals."
"I know that you might feel a bit uncertain about things because we drew in our first leg with Triton. But just remember, no matter what happens, we are going to go out there and do our best."
As those words sink in, hearing their captain and leader speak hope into their hearts. The nervous atmosphere became loose and relaxed. I couldn't help myself from smiling at David with this pride and encouragement.
Girl, control yourself, please. You two are still on a break and haven't told the team about you two.
And to put the cherry on top, Ryan added, "And every one of you's should be proud of yourselves for how far we have came as team. And I bet that we can and will win the cup together."
Almost finishing the scramble eggs and bacon from my plate, Tarzan dropped gently next to me, "Alright, Bumblebee. Spill."
Raising my eyebrow at him, "Spill what?"
"Your team's strengths and weaknesses." Tarzan said with a cheeky grin, taking a sip from my orange juice. Ignoring my death stare as he places the glass down, "I've shared information with you about the other teams that Knights played against. So, shouldn't you return the favor?"
Flicking his ear for drinking my juice, saying, "Just because I asked you about the other teams' players, doesn't mean that I have to do the same for you. If you want to know what my team's strengths and weaknesses are, then you should have watched our games more often."
Last week, Thunderdogs and NY Blue Jay had drawn in their first leg. On Monday, Knights played against Triton and also drew with two goals each.
This weekend, all four teams will be playing their second legs. In order that there will only be two finalists to fight for the trophy.
Rolling his eyes at me, as if I'd told him the most ridiculous thing ever. That's when Josiah exclaimed in, "How do you and Tenzin know each other?"
"We used go to high school together." I answered while Tarzan placed his arm around my shoulder, "Yeah, me and Jennifer go way back. We used to play against each other all of the time."
