The week after Sunday past by so fast that it almost seemed like it never existed, especially the three matches that I'd played with the Knights. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday was busy for me and the team playing against two collages' and the university that's close to KAU.
Being my first away games with the team and the other being played on campus during the trip to the two was always filled with fun and laughter. Most of the students from our campus travelled to support whenever half of the cheerleaders couldn't make it which I honestly prefer.
Because the crowds' enjoyment and their own rooting songs that they came up with was more uplifting and catchy. Plus it meant less of Stephanie. All scoreboards were three and two wins for us, making very little mistakes as I've done in the first game. I've also scored and assisted more than how much I had for my first game.
I played very well in all three games, better than I had before, though I haven't found my footing in the team yet.Still trying to find my place in it as well as trying to get use to all of the guys while knowing that it was never gonna be easy.
A boys team is a whole different ball game compared to a team of girls, there's different conversations, different clicks, different energy and personalities.I may have David, Ryan, Logan, Jimmy, Timmy, Chris and Eric in the team, I can always talk to them during the bus rides to away games and play well with them.
But the other guys in the team don't see me as a soccer player or part of them like they do for my friends and most of the time, they treat me like someone's sister or worst, their teammate's girlfriend.
Playing playful and mostly childish pranks like fake spiders, rats and snakes, prank calls, shaking sodas that they offers or saying that someone called me when they didn't.
Each prank I just brush off and pretended that they weren't annoying or boring and just went on with training. Besides I have said that I don't mind any jokes, despite theirs being lame. While ignoring Riley's dirty, one sided stares towards me which I've noticed wasn't only coming from him. There was another player who didn't enjoy the idea of having a girl on his team, Ivan Wilson who has been a Knight's player since his first year on campus.
A guy who's two inches taller than me, but almost two inches shorter than Ryan with brown eyes, short nose and chin, dark brown hair that's under his chin and olive skinned. Instead of being verbal about his disapproval like Riley, he's more physical, knocking his shoulder against mine, tripping me sometimes.
And during the last training before the game on Friday, he 'by accident' kicked a ball straight to my face which I was lucky and awake enough to duck or else I would've had a huge red print on the side of my face.
When I wanted to return the favour, Logan and Timmy fired the ball twice towards Ivan between his legs, now remember that the balls aren't slightly flat.
Whenever we train, we use brand new ones, so the pain they bring is very much real. Causing Ivan to be in extreme pain twice and both boys would put on their best acting forward. Pretending that they never meant it while silently giving me fist bumps with quiet giggles.
In the second last week of June before going into July, I was grateful for the two breaks from training that Coach Richard gave the team and me. Although it meant that our one hour practice has another hour added to it which was fine since this Tuesday, my day has been cut short. Both professors had a family emergency, so we don't have classes.
I was walking out of the girls' bathroom dressed in black Adidas soccer shorts, my red and black KAU sports T-shirt with black and white indoor soccer shoes.
Deciding to change here, instead of walking all the way to the soccer stadium's changing room that I've made my own when I'm walking past the one close to the Kinesiology lab.
