"I really don't understand what's wrong with her." Footsteps were approaching you, however, you were too busy sulking to care. Your eyes were strained on the grass, small legs crossed in front of you. From what the queen could see, you looked to be pulling grass out and throwing it away. (M/n) let out a sigh at your moody behavior. She finally came to a stop right behind you but even then you didn't turn to look at her.

"What has you upset my princess?" There was no reply as you pulled out another blade of grass. She thought that you would ignore her for a second, but you finally mumbled out a small response. It was so quiet that even she could barely hear it with her advanced hearing. But it still stuck out to her.

"I shouldn't have won." She couldn't help the eyebrow raise that came in response to your words. You couldn't see the confused and inquisitive look she gave you, but you could definitely feel it.

"I didn't want to fight."

There was a moment of silence before the Queen let out a sigh. Despite being dressed in some of her finest clothes, she still sat down on the ground next to you. You still had yet to look at her. You continued to pull the grass out of the ground, so focused on the task you didn't realize she had scooted closer to you.

"(Y/n), I'm sorry you had to do that. It seemed the Prince greatly underestimated you and would only agree to those terms." You did appreciate her apology, however, it didn't mean much now. What's done is done. You had already beaten the Prince in the fight, luckily managing to overcome him with your strength. You had secured your country's independence for now. Hopefully, Kou would take it as a sign to fall back.

"I don't like to hurt people." You had finally stopped pulling out blades of grass, your hands resting on the ground. A frown pulled at your lips and you couldn't help but feel embarrassed at your words. It almost felt shameful to say such things, even if it were a natural feeling. Your mother couldn't help but frown slightly at what you said. Not out of anger but rather sorrow and pity.

"I know my dear, but sometimes there is no other choice. When you become queen it is expected that you protect this kingdom and fight alongside the people." That didn't help you much. It only caused more negative emotions to build inside of you. They wanted you to be the queen of an entire empire, and yet you were so small and weak. You had so much to learn and it felt like everything was being rushed. You wanted to be strong like your mother, yet it seemed no matter how hard you tried you would never be at her level.

"I know but I still don't like it." (M/n) brought a hand up to rub at your shoulder. You shouldn't help but lean into her motherly touch, pleased to have her act like this when she could be so professional. Your hands began to rip the grass from the ground again, unaware of the creature that lived beneath it.

"Neither do I my dear but do you know why we do it?" You were about to shake your head when a sudden hiss filled the air. You turned your head just in time to see the snake lunging at. A scream left your mouth as you fell back onto your mother, the woman skillfully catching the serpent in her hand before it could reach you. Your body was laying against your mother's and you were panting out of fear.

"The same reason this creature attacked you. We do not wish to do it, but we must protect our home from those that pose a threat to it." She gave you a teasing look as she let go of the snake. The reptile slithered back into its burrow and out of your view. You watched it with wide eyes, thinking of what could have happened if your mother wasn't there.
